Tara of Lakeside is this week's Bay Treasure Chest winner, taking home $11,564 after her number, 39009, was drawn.

Tara said she was thrilled to receive the call.

She had just dropped off her toonie this morning at Sobeys in Timberlea before heading to work, and was relieved she made it in time. Tara said she has never won much before, aside from a few dollars on the occasional scratch ticket.

"I always say I have no luck, but I'm definitely feeling lucky today."

A Bay Treasure Chest player for several years, Tara said she appreciates what the organization does for the local community.

While she hasn't decided exactly how she'll spend the money, she said the win comes at a great time. She hopes to treat her kids, enjoy a mini vacation this summer, pay some bills and possibly put some money toward work on her cottage.

Hooked Rug Museum of North America

Hooked Rug Museum of North America invites visitors this season

Located in Queensland, N.S., the Hooked Rug Museum of North America is preserving the history of rug hooking one loop at a time. The museum features nine galleries showcasing hundreds of hand‑hooked works, artifacts and themed exhibits exploring the art form’s past and present.

Visitors can explore spaces such as the Interpretive Centre, Noah’s Ark exhibit and Garrett Gallery Factory, and take part in workshops and “hook-ins” that bring fibre art enthusiasts together.

Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., from May 1 to Thanksgiving, the museum also offers a Fibre Arts Marketplace with locally created items, supplies and hand‑dyed wools and yarns.

The third annual Arts and Crafts Festival takes place Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, featuring dozens of vendors.

Looking for a fun, creative way to keep kids engaged this summer?

Unicorn Theatre has two exciting weekend camps coming up in July!

“Spotlight” is a half-day theatre experience for children entering Grades Primary to 3 on Saturday, July 11. Older youth (Grades 4–12) can jump into “Play in a Weekend: Despicable Me," where participants rehearse and perform a short play in just 2½ days — from July 24 to 26.

Both camps offer a chance to build confidence, creativity, and stage skills in a supportive, fun environment.
