In the first five brief verses of the book of Genesis, God’s creative work gets rolling. As we head towards Sunday there’s something that feels particularly noteworthy for me this week. In this story, God creates out of messiness. Before God made this world, Genesis speaks about pre-existent stuff. A formless void, wind and deep waters. If you’ve ever been out on a boat late at night when a storm rolls in, you can begin to picture it. It’s chaos. But then God gets to work, bringing order and purpose out of the chaos. I need to hear that. I need to know that God can work with chaos, and goodness can emerge. Out of chaos and messiness, God creates light. It’s a light that helps us to see the goodness that surrounds us. Yes, life is hard. Yes it can feel tumultuous and uncertain. But God is still working, still creating, still finding ways for the light of Christ to shine in even the darkest and most chaotic places in this world. See you in church as together we remind each other that we are living in the light.

Women's Weekend
3pm, Friday, January 26 through 1pm, Sunday, January 28
In April 2023, the Surgeon General declared loneliness an epidemic in the United States. Social disconnection and isolation afflict Americans at higher rates than ever, contributing to a host of health problems and decreased productivity in work and school. Together we will explore our own experiences of loneliness as well as ways to renew our connections to each other, the larger community, God, and ourselves. We will have opportunities to be renewed by spending time walking in the woods, relaxing in the whirlpool, scheduling a massage (extra cost), journaling, and reading. Led by Pastor Hammersten, Pastor Freeman, and Conference & Retreat Center Executive Director Rev. Dr. Theresa Latini.
