Community Health of South Florida, Inc. (CHI) is grateful to have received a special grant from the TD Charitable Foundation. The grant is enhancing and expanding access to medical care for thousands of patients in South Florida.
The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the need for telehealth services to ensure that patients with chronic conditions maintain their health. It has also been a safe vehicle for patients to access primary care, pediatrics, behavioral health for adults and children, OB/GYN, urgent care, and dental services. In addition, telehealth has helped reduce staff exposure to sick patients, preserved personal protective equipment and assisted with the promotion of self-quarantine within our communities. At the onset of the pandemic, CHI quickly realized that it rapidly had to build onto its telemedicine infrastructure to further enable its network of community health centers to meet the health care needs of its patients.
TD Charitable Foundation joined forces with CHI and provided a $50,000 grant which will enable CHI to serve over 19,000 patients. This support will increase health care access for low to moderate-income residents, populations disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“TD Charitable Foundation is proud to help CHI as we are equally committed to supporting innovative solutions that create more equitable health outcomes for all ", said Akash Mahajan, Manager of Citizenship Partnerships and member of the Social Impact team at TD Bank.
The funds have been designated to equip designated “Telehealth Suites” with patient assessment terminals at three of CHI’s locations: the Doris Ison Health Center, in Southern Miami; the Martin Luther King, Jr. Clinica Campesina in Homestead; and the Tavernier Health Center in the Florida Keys. Patients can receive service from the comfort of their home.
“I am very proud of the tireless work that the CHI providers and staff do for our patient population, but I am clear that we could not accomplish our best work without the support of our community. I am so grateful for the support from TD Charitable Foundation”, said Brodes H. Hartley, Jr., President and CEO of CHI.
