Dear Friend,

When I started with The “I Have A Dream” Foundation of Boulder County in 2008 as an AmeriCorps Member, I was compelled by the holistic nature of supporting others and my ability to leverage my privileges to our shared goals. The recession at that time called me to put actions to my fundamental belief:  everyone — regardless of income, identities, or situations — is entitled to access and choice. As we face this crisis, I see even more our responsibility as a community to make that access a reality.

On Tuesday, IHDF will join nonprofit organizations around the world in requesting donations as part of #GivingTuesdayNow. Our longtime supporters, Dean and Becky Leffingwell, have pledged to match your donation dollar-for-dollar up to $30,000! Your #GivingTuesdayNow donation will be doubled: $10 becomes $20, $100 becomes $200, and $500 becomes $1,000. Help us reach our goal of $60,000.

Join us in our efforts to empower young people from low-income communities with the choices they need to achieve their dreams. Our program teams provide holistic partnership from early elementary school through college, along with a postsecondary tuition assistance scholarship. This work is more important now than ever to ensure the impact of COVID-19 on 600+ Dreamer Scholars and families is minimized and they know they’re not alone.

If you are able, I invite you to invest in our community’s future and support Dreamer Scholars on Tuesday. Your donation will be used to fund direct needs such as laptops and internet access for students to finish their education as well as program staff to stay alongside Dreamer Scholars as they navigate this tumultuous time.

Working personally and systemically, I can tell you how rewarding it is to be a part of the solutions to the inequalities we face in Boulder and Weld counties and to partner with young people and families. My personal commitment to this work is living my values, knowing that what we do matters and can change the course of one or many peoples’ lives — mine included.
In Partnership,
Garett Brownlee Plantz
Interim Executive Director
