Katherine Laurente is an experienced music educator, with 8 years of public school experience teaching general music to students in transitional kindergarten through 8th grade as well as
music ensembles including: choir, strings, recorder, and Mariachi. She is also a certified First Steps in Music teacher, has been studying with the Richard’s Institute of Education Through Music for almost a decade, accomplished level one certification with the American Orff Schulwerk Association and holds a bachelor of music degree and teaching credential in music education. Katherine also enjoys learning from and guiding new teachers as an instructional coach. Performing locally as a violinist and singing in choir keeps her love for music alive and her skills sharp. After teaching in the public schools, she is ready to start a new chapter working with infants and toddlers in their most critical developmental years as a Together in Tune educator.
Brooks Mancina is the mother of two young boys and a local musician who has been a member of auditioned singing groups for over 20 years. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology, a masters degree in counseling, interned as an elementary school counselor, and worked at a preschool. Her education introduced her to play and art therapy, and her work in schools showed her the potential these can unlock in children and the connections they can create. The most educational and transformative experience, however, has been raising her children. She wants to empower other parents and caregivers to strengthen their bond with their child through music, play, and research-based strategies while also taking the time to tune into themselves. Brooks is excited to combine her knowledge with her passion for music as a Together in Tune teacher.
About the Class
New at Tim’s Music: classes to help playfully connect with your baby through research-based methods for children 3-24 months old and the grown-ups who love them. Once a week for 6 weeks, we’ll meet at Tim’s Music in Carmichael in their beautiful rehearsal hall to teach songs and rhymes that help with every facet of their child’s development. Part of that is also incorporating movement and even dance since feeling the beat, dynamics, and form of music is important not only for their neurological development but also can set the stage for reading and music literacy.
Babies 3-11 months (who are not yet walking) will meet on Wednesdays at 10am, and toddlers 12-24 months (who are walking) will meet Fridays at 10am. Using the Richards Institute's Education Through Music (ETM) philosophy, John Feierabend's First Steps in Music curriculum, and the Orff Schulwerk approach, these classes aim to nurture your child's growth through the joyful exploration of music. We hope that you leave each class empowered with practical parenting tools, a sense of community, and a deeper bond with your baby
Weekly classes will begin on Wednesday, April 30th for ages 3-11 months (non-walking), and Friday, May 2nd for ages 12-24 months (walking) and be hosted in our performance hall.
