Meet Karen Anderson: Building Community On Every Front |
| If you’ve been to a Berthoud Habitat for Humanity event, chances are you’ve seen Karen Anderson in action. As our Vice President of the Board of Directors and a dedicated member of the Events and Fundraising Committee, Karen is often the first to roll up her sleeves and represent Habitat in the community. | Karen’s journey with Berthoud Habitat began shortly after moving to town about eight years ago. A visit to the DURA house with the Planning Commission sparked her interest, and within a year she was serving on the Board. | “With a new Executive Director starting shortly before my appointment, I hoped I could use my experience to assist in expanding BHFH’s efforts to provide more homes.” | | Her leadership extends well beyond the boardroom. On the Events Committee, Karen finds energy in the creativity and generosity of fellow members. “The enthusiasm is infectious! The spirit of giving, collaboration, and community is inspiring,” she says. That energy shines brightest each fall at the Habitat Hoedown, where Karen helps coordinate the details of one of Berthoud Habitat’s largest fundraisers. | | | Karen is also deeply involved in other community leadership roles, including the Berthoud Library Board and the Town’s Planning Commission. Balancing these commitments isn’t always easy, but she sees them as connected. | | “Berthoud Habitat for Humanity, the Library Board, and the Planning Commission all share issues relating to town growth that require out-of-the-box thinking and creative solutions." | | Her professional and board experience has proven invaluable, but Karen admits she’s not one to grab a hammer. “I am not very good at building things or handling tools,” she says. “But I applaud those who have those skills!” Instead, her gift lies in bringing people together, whether that’s volunteers, staff, or community members who share a vision for a stronger Berthoud. | | | | When asked what motivates her to stay involved, Karen doesn’t hesitate: “Knowing that our efforts have a direct positive impact on the lives of new homeowners and their families, as well as on the hearts of the staff and volunteers.” She recalls memorable moments like meeting the RV Care-A-Vanners, seeing the joy on homeowners’ faces, and celebrating the success of the very first Hoedown fundraiser. | For Karen, Habitat’s mission resonates fully. | “Bringing people together on common ground to help others while enriching our community shows the power of love among us" | Looking to the future, her vision is for Berthoud Habitat to expand — building homes integrated throughout neighborhoods, offering repair assistance to help low-income families stay in their homes, and growing its volunteer base to give more people the chance to experience the joy of service. | | Karen’s story is a reminder that Habitat’s work is about much more than homes. It’s about building connections, fostering community, and creating hope — one family, one event, and one act of service at a time. | | |

Women Build Day – A Powerful Beginning
In August, we hosted our very first Women Build Day Fundraiser! Women from across the community came together with energy, joy, and teamwork, siding Addison’s garage and showing what’s possible when women empower women. Their generosity and spirit set the tone for many more Women Builds to come.

We’re thrilled to share that HT Land and Tait & Associates are once again our Presenting Sponsors of the Habitat Hoedown—thank you for your steadfast partnership!
And a quick heads-up: this is the final week to donate a silent auction item for the Hoedown. If you’ve been considering a contribution (services, experiences, gift cards, baskets, local goods), now’s the time. Your generosity fuels affordable homebuilding right here in Berthoud.
