4. Chair Talk

Chair Talk October, 2026

Hi, Everyone…

Well, we are getting close to voting and we’re going to win!!!

This is no time to stop working! Please, let me know if you can volunteer during early voting (Oct. 19-30) or Election Day (Nov.3). We need people to help voters get to the polls. We also need greeters who will sit outside the polling locations to answer people’s questions. No training required. We’ll get you the simple instructions you need. Email: blancodemocrats@gmail.com

We never got to meet Benjamin Flores, the Democratic candidate for Land Commissioner. A few weeks back, he sent me an email with his explanation of why. I’m sharing his heartfelt letter with you explaining why we have not “seen” him.

“I know many of you reading this work hard every day. You go to work, take care of your families, pay the bills, help your neighbors, build your communities, and keep going even when life throws something unexpected in your way.

I understand that feeling. When I came to the United States in 1996, I arrived with two bags of clothes, a strong work ethic, and a dream of building a better life. I washed cars. I fried chicken at KFC. I repaired computers at a hotel. Those jobs eventually opened the door to a career in computer networking and cybersecurity that has lasted nearly three decades. Later, my wife, our daughter, and I moved to Bay City, where we started a small family business raising heritage-breed pigs. The challenges I experienced as a small producer helped lead me into public service and eventually onto the Bay City, City Council.

And then, this year, work took on an entirely different meaning for me. In the middle of running for Texas Land Commissioner, I was diagnosed with leukemia. There were treatments, difficult days, uncertainty, and a campaign that did not simply disappear because I got sick. While receiving treatment at MD Anderson, I remained an active candidate and continued working regularly with my campaign team. Today, I am grateful to be in remission.

That experience has reminded me that so many Texans are carrying things the rest of us may never see. Somebody working next to you may also be caring for a sick parent. Someone answering emails may be going through treatment. Someone working two jobs may be trying to keep their family afloat. Someone showing up every morning may have had one of the hardest nights of their life. And they still show up.

Texas deserves a Land Commissioner who will stand up for every Texan, even when doing so is politically inconvenient. Silence is a choice. Leadership is too.

If you believe Texas should choose opportunity over division and leadership over silence, I hope you will stand with our campaign.”

Ben Flores, Democrat running for Texas Land Commissioner

6. Blanco County Democrats in ACTION!

Market Days has been a huge success in getting out information and candidate signs. Thanks to Maggie, Wendy, Karen and Stacy for their help in setting up the booth! Also a shout out to Harry & Shawn for setting up the tent!

Rally at the Ranch was a huge success despite the rain! Over 400 + turned out. A big Thank You to all the candidates who attended and spoke. Gina even turned down an umbrella stating: "I will endure the rain just like you in the audience."

Shout outs go to all the participating counties - Bandera, Bexar, Blanco, Comal, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr & Real. Special thanks to Jerry Vaclav - Gillespie County for his inspiration to have this event!

The Billboard is up in Johnson City!
