Shining a Light on Domestic Violence: Support and Resources

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office stands committed to protecting our community and supporting survivors year-round.

Domestic violence affects millions, transcending all backgrounds. This includes various forms of abuse—physical, emotional, financial, and more. The National Domestic Violence Hotline reports over 12 million people experience intimate partner violence annually.

If you or someone you know is affected, community resources are available through the Domestic Violence Resource Center and Family Justice Center. These organizations provide support through safety planning, counseling, housing, and financial resources.

You’re not alone—help is available.

Let’s shine a light on this issue and support survivors during Domestic Violence Awareness Month and beyond.

Pink Patches, Personal Meaning

This cause is close to home. Sheriff Massey and many members of our WCSO family are breast cancer survivors. Their journeys are reminders of strength, resilience, and the hope that carries us forward.

Throughout October, deputies will wear pink shoulder patches in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in honor of everyone impacted by breast cancer.

Dangerous Viral Trend

We are aware of a recent TikTok trend in which individuals kick residential doors—often causing damage—before running away.

We recognize how frightening these incidents are for community members, and we want to emphasize the serious risks associated with this trend.

Parents, please speak with your teenagers about the potential consequences of participating in harmful online challenges. This behavior is not only dangerous but may lead to criminal charges.

If you need to report any damage related to these incidents, please contact our non-emergency line at 503-629-0111. Together, we can help keep our community safe.
