SEL Word of the Month - Respect
Last week was a busy first full week back to school. As our team visited schools and classrooms, it was evident that our teachers and students were already well-versed on school routines and strong classroom instruction was already taking place. This hard work and structure will continue to lay the foundation for all our efforts ahead. Over the next few weeks, we will be working with school leaders to develop our principal and assistant principal cohort meeting support structures.
This week I wanted to take a moment to discuss our SEL word of the Month which is “Respect.” In our school district, respect forms the cornerstone of a positive and thriving school system environment. This value guides all our interactions, shapes our relationships, and underscores the importance of empathy and understanding. Respect goes beyond mere politeness because it is a fundamental principle that fosters an atmosphere of inclusivity and trust. Our educators and staff are committed to nurturing respect within our students, not only for their peers, teachers, and the school community, but also for themselves. Through classroom discussions, activities, special events, and extra-curricular opportunities, our students learn about the various dimensions of the attribute of respect which will empower them to become compassionate, conscientious, and responsible global citizens. When we use the phrase “It’s all about the Z,” it is about respecting those in the past who laid the foundation for our present and future school community and ensuring that we continue to build upon that legacy.
