“I couldn’t do it on my own,” Aakhu says. “When people help you, you never forget it.”
Aakhu stayed in Respiro while facing homelessness in 2023 after living in her car.
Today, at 68 years old, she is housed, healing, and creating handmade jewelry.
Grateful for the culturally responsive services she received at Respiro, Aakhu revisits the staff every chance she gets, bearing gifts of handmade jewelry, and surrounding them with the peaceful grace her presence brings.
“I want to take care of the people that take care of the people,” reflects Aakhu.
