Message from Mayor Kapszukiewicz
I hope everyone had a great week. It has been an amazing week for us promoting our university - The University of Toledo. This was Rocket Week, which leads up to the home-opener football game tomorrow night. We have gone all out for UT this week: the university had a pep rally on campus, we had a rally downtown with cheerleaders and the marching band, and the UT Rockets flag is flying in our parks and at city hall. Rocket Week is also a great opportunity for us to recognize the dedication our city employees have for Toledo. The University has offered to help us honor and recognize our employees. Forty employees from across every department will be recognized before and during the football game Saturday. Rocket Week will be an annual event for our city and I hope you join me this season rooting for our home team. UT game day should be a big day in Toledo!

Monday is Labor Day and I hope to see you all at the parade downtown . It is an important day dedicated to the social and economic achievements of the American worker. Our workforce has contributed in countless ways to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our nation. I look forward to joining the many unions in our community at the parade to mark the special day.

As summer draws to a close, be assured that we are assembling a plan to make sure leaves are picked up swiftly and as much road work as possible is completed before winter. We made road repair a top priority during my first year in office. Toledo resurfaced more miles of road this year than any year, except one, since 1999. We began resurfacing the Anthony Wayne Trail 18 months ahead of schedule. We still have a long way to go, but there is no question we are making progress and investing in our roads in a way that has not been seen in two decades.

Great Lakes Museum: The Edmund Fitzgerald and so much more The depth indicator reels off the feet. The air supply counts down the minutes until a return to the surface is mandatory. Meanwhile, the “sub” plows deeper and deeper into the murk. A map of the bottom of Lake Superior shows the way. A tap of the sub’s toggle to starboard, a little bit to port, forward now, and there it is: the wreck of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald.
