Message from Mayor Kapszukiewicz

I want to start this week by saying congratulations to the Lucas County Land Bank for its recent successes. I am proud of the accomplishments it has made so far this year but I know there is more work to be done. The Land Bank is ahead of schedule on its plan to renovate or demolish 1,500 properties in 1,500 days. The Lucas County Land Bank is a leader in Ohio and the city will continue to help it in whatever way possible.
Also this week, we have been preparing to travel to New York Monday for our annual meeting with analysts who will play a role in deciding how much city taxpayers pay for municipal bond interest. This is an important series of meetings that I will attend along with Councilman Larry Sykes, chairman of the finance committee, Chief of Staff Katy Crosby, Finance Director Melanie Campbell, and Law Director Dale Emch.
Toledo last year maintained the same bond ratings as the previous year. Moody’s Investor Service rated Toledo “A2 with a stable outlook” and Standard & Poor’s grante
d an “A-” rating with a stable outlook.
Finally, I invite everyone to celebrate Toledo Pride with our community this weekend. We will be at the parade Saturday and I hope to see you all there!

Toledo In The News
New health center opens in East Toledo
The East Toledo Community Health Center opened its doors to patients on Monday, with the goal of providing comprehensive primary care services to those who need them most. It’s the 14th location for Health Partners of Western Ohio, which runs community health centers across the region, including in Lima, Defiance, Bryan, and Tiffin. Janis Sunderhaus, chief executive officer of Health Partners of Western Ohio, saw an opportunity on the east side.
Neighbors join Lucas County Land Bank in fighting blight in Toledo
When Keith Polin noticed people coming and going from the vacant house next to his, he re-boarded the back door with fresh plywood and called the Lucas County Land Bank. He knew the house next door had been abandoned about two years ago, so he was wary when soon after individuals he didn’t recognize began entering the property.
