As the Voice for Business, the Chamber builds strategic relationships that advance South Sound Business.

This week Chamber President & CEO Tom Pierson traveled to Tel Aviv, Israel with the U.S. Chamber to participate in meetings and explore opportunities to grow the South Sound business footprint in the Middle East. Outcomes from this trip include:

  1. Learning how to better access global markets
  2. Developing middle eastern trade partnerships
  3. Strengthening commercial ties

Since March 2017, the Chamber has managed the World Trade Center Tacoma (WTCTA). This organization assists businesses in introducing their products to the international market and offers services such as business consultation, translation, and trade missions.

CITY COUNCIL CONFIRMS TWO NEW DIRECTORS
On Tuesday, Tacoma City Council confirmed two Directors in high-profile city roles. Jackie Flowers has been confirmed as the new Tacoma Public Utilities Director, and Jeff Robinson was confirmed as the new Director of Community and Economic Development.

STATE LEVEL LEADERSHIP NEEDED TO TACKLE HOMELESS CRISIS
Seattle residents turned out by the thousands over the past two weeks to petition for a referendum to overturn the controversial and unpopular head tax. This outpouring of civic engagement that pressured the Seattle City Council to repeal the head tax last Tuesday. The flip-flopping of Seattle City Council highlights Washington’s need for state level leadership in tackling the statewide homeless crisis.
 
GALLERY CLOSING NIGHT
This Third Thursday, experience your last chance to flip the switches and turn the knobs in “the light we hear”, an interactive exhibit of multimedia sculptures & installations by Andy Behrle at the 950 Gallery. The devices he creates transform the motion of light passing through water into hypnotic drones, allow viewers to listen to the colors of a stained glass window, and envision what the rhythms of the night sky might sound like.
