Video Game Composer Tommy Talarico Joins Forces with the ASO for VIDEO GAMES LIVE!

I played a lot of video games in high school. The arcade at lunch (Gauntlet and Galaga were my favorites) followed by the couch at my best friend Dustin's house after school (Laser Gates on the Atari). My how things have progressed. This issue we catch up with a gentleman who has been helping that progression on the music front. Our interview with Tommy Talarico is in preparation to hear what that sounds like live and in person when he joins the Albany Symphony Orchestra for the internationally acclaimed Video Games LIVE performance in early October.

GA-LING!

Marvel Studio Writer Ryan Little on Deck for

First Annual 1Upstate Gaming Conference

You may have noticed that at ACE! we like to cover writers. This month is a special treat as I got to chat a bit about what it's like to be in the universe of comics and film with Ryan Little who works on a couple of different series for Marvel Studios. Ryan will be in town for the upcoming 1UpState Video Game Conference (see info below) so it seemed like a good time to catch up and get some tips how young aspiring writers can break into the biz.

"A strong theme we are working with this year is 'The Musician in the Community' - In fact, we received an NEA Grant for a community residency by Third Coast Percussion. For this season we have also commissioned a new work by NY based composer Andrew Yee (ED: GRAMMY winning cellist with the Attacca Quartet). His work is called 'Something Golden' and is in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Classical WMHT and will be performed by the Thalea String Quartet who are particularly skilled at communicating with broad audiences in alignment with community based inclusion."

Jennifer Laursen : FoCM Board Member

ACE! is pleased to be offering tickets to the opening and closing events of the FoCM 2023 - 2024 season. This will include a block of tickets to the GRAMMY Award-winning Chicago-based percussion quartet and composer collective Third Coast Percussion whose performance will be on April 27, 2024 at The Linda in Albany. (Be on the lookout for this in our March 2024 newsletter)

INSIDE ACE! | CREATING A NEW PATH

Unlike last months edition, this month is lacking in brevity...a lot to share leaning into a couple of strong themes namely video games and yet again, classical music! It all seemed to fall together in a way that demanded attention. Our interviews this month are atypical in that Tommy Talarico and Ryan Little are not from the region. That said, they will both be in the area supporting exciting programs that I felt were worthy of sharing. I have been wanting to get more involved in the dynamic developments in the regions video game industries and this was a way to tackle the subject from some uniquely creative angles.

The overlap with the upcoming Albany Symphony Orchestra performance of VIDEO GAMES LIVE really dovetailed nicely as well into this months ticket giveaway by the Friends of Chamber Music. ACE! is locking in the opening and closing events of what is a very dynamic season.

We also have a couple events we are amplifying. First for the regional Film Industry with WMHT followed by a newcomer to the video game conference circuit: 1UpState. (Info below). Make sure to check out the news section for some interesting regional updates including Soul Fire Farms recent $250K Heinz Award for the Economy, another feather in the cap of Leah Penniman and the SFF Team.

Finally, a big CONGRATS to the Arts Center for the Capital Region for distributing $500K in Statewide Community Regrants. Looking forward to the next round in 2024. Until next time, enjoy this crisp and invigorating weather. Fall is my time being an October child and I intend to soak it in with unbridled joy!
