Today, civic participation occurs at many levels. We make impactful decisions about our community every time we make a purchase, vote, post on social media and, of course, volunteer. We think any awareness we can bring to the many resources that might spur individual action for good, falls right in line with what we’re up to at HandsOn.

Unity. Remembrance. Resilience.
This year is the 20th anniversary of 9/11. In the aftermath of 9/11 we saw a rise in community engagement and people answering the call for action towards unity. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a similar affect on our nation and we are be called to unite as a nation.

The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance is the largest federally recognized day of service, let's make this year the biggest one yet! The goal is to pay tribute to the lives lost 20 years ago with 20 million good deeds.

We are excited to be one of ten cities across the nation participating in the official 9/11Day meal pack. In Phoenix, we have a goal of packing 200,000 meals that will be distributed around the state.

We are looking for support volunteers to help run the meal pack. It's a high energy, fun project, check out some of the news coverage from our 2019 pack.
Loving Local
Community isn't just built through acts of volunteerism. Loving Local is our new 9/11 Day centered campaign focusing on the ways we can lift up our community with simple actions.

For the week leading up to 9/11, we are challenging ourselves and our community to participate in Local Acts of Kindness. A great way to support community as individuals is through our purchasing power. From September 4 - 11 share how you are loving local with us by using #LovingLocalAZ.

Ideas for Local Acts of Kindness -
  • supporting a local nonprofit, through volunteering or donating
  • taking a neighbor out to lunch at a local restaurant
  • sharing your favorite local business on your social media platforms
  • buying the coffee of the person behind you in line

Learn more about Loving Local on our page and stay tuned to our social media for more updates!
Your Experience Counts
The pandemic has made learning a challenge for students of all grade levels. This year we are looking for committed volunteers to join our Your Experience Counts program to help our standard 1st - 8th grade students AND after school at Mesa High School.
