Mr Hough’s repertoire leans heavily toward the promo-punk pantheon…the arrangements are stripped-down, but their furious energy remains in tact as Mr Hough all but assaults his piano keys, often dragged back from the emotional edge (or a spiraling monologue) by his accompanist on bass, Sue Goldberg.

A portrait of Billy has been chosen as Jack Pierson’s best photograph. Jack says, “Billy is one of the most brash and sparkling performers I’ve ever encountered.
Billy has been the Eastern Seaboard’s cultural flashpoint for over two decades.”
The New Yorker 2008, Hilton Als
“Up and coming star—Hough’s rough, melancholy voice is a big instrument. Absurdist theater can happen anywhere if it’s kept alive by artists like Hough, whose implicitly political talk grows more poignant and more beautiful in summer’s closing days.”
Hough has built up an impressive group of supporters and collaborators: Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Cunningham, actress Lili Taylor, who often joins Hough on stage, film maker Oren Moverman, who has placed Hough in three of his films, and filmmaker John Waters, who called Scream Along with Billy: “The Bravest Thing I’ve seen in 20 years.”
