Tomorrow’s Lunch with LARAEC

Grab your lunch and join Justin and Michele for Lunch with LARAEC on Thursday, February 9th at 12:30pm for Transform Your Classroom with Collaborative Writing Tasks. They'll be welcoming presenter extraordinaire Kristi Reyes as she discusses ways to create community, build confidence and foster student agency with this challenging skill. Participants will have an opportunity to view and take part in activities that incorporate technology and have been successfully vetted online. Whether you're teaching remotely or in person, if you're looking for ways to incorporate writing in your classroom, don't miss this episode of Lunch with LARAEC!

EDD English Language Learner Grant Opportunity for IET Programs – PY 2022-23 

The Employment Development Department (EDD), in coordination with the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency (LWDA), announces the availability of up to $18 million from the State of California General Fund for the English Language Learner (ELL) Integrated Education and Training (IET) Fund Program Year (PY) 2022-23 Solicitation for Proposal (SFP). 

 

The goal of this SFP is to support new or existing projects that incorporate an IET program model to prepare ELLs for in-demand, high quality jobs with sustainable wages. The grant focuses on utilizing sector-based strategies to develop new IET course offerings in partnership with employers and education providers, and utilizing documented best practices and evidence-based strategies to support ELLs with full wrap around services through their participation. Through this program, ELLs will obtain occupational skills for living wage jobs within in-demand industries in the project service areas. 

 

Proposals will be accepted from community-based organizations, adult education providers, California Community College districts or colleges, other education or training providers, labor organizations and labor-management partnerships, workforce intermediaries, and local workforce development areas. 

 

Individuals are not eligible to apply. 

 

Proposals must be received by 3 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2023. An informational webinar will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required for all participants. The EDD encourages applicants to submit a Notice of Intent to apply by February 22, 2023, at noon to [email protected]. The Technology and Distance Learning Symposium is OTAN’s annual conference with dynamic, hands-on presentations and lively discussions that show participants how to integrate technology to enhance the learner experience, extend the classroom to learners through blended and distance learning, and help adult education programs be more effective and efficient. 

 

TDLS is ideal for teachers, coordinators, administrators, and support staff at California adult education agencies under the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, WIOA Title II — the federal grant administered by the Adult Education Office at the California Department of Education — as well as adult education staff who work at school districts, community colleges, community or faith-based organizations, volunteer literacy organizations, public or private nonprofit agencies, public libraries, state agencies, and correctional facilities.

CASAS’ CAEP Accountability for 2022-23 NEW Webinar and Face-to-Face Training

During the face-to-face training, Jay will provide an overview of quarterly and end of year CAEP data collection requirements, and steps for intake, update, and follow up reporting. During the training, new requirements will be identified and a review of existing guidelines for CAEP reporting, including initiatives at the federal level that may impact state reporting. Updates of CAEP reports and other tools that are available in TOPSpro Enterprise will be provided. State and federal level guidelines that affect CAEP data collection will be identified, and guidance to implement them at the local level will be provided. Lastly, practices for student enrollment, participation, and assessment implementation will be identified to ensure agency compliance and promote student success.


During the webinar, Jay will provide an overview of the basic steps of TOPSpro® Enterprise. Identify key features on the TE main menu. Use data tables to review and clean up agency data, and meet quarterly submission requirements. Input data manually, and through Import and export with third party systems. Use TE accountability reports such as the CAEP Summary and CAEP DIR.

High School Equivalency/Proficiency 2022-23 Webinar Series 

The California Department of Education is inviting chief examiners, test site administrators, school counselors, and others with a connection to the High School Equivalency (HSE) exams and the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) to attend this informational webinar series. This series of webinars will be offered during 2022–23 and is designed to provide new and timely updates regarding the HSE and proficiency exams.

CAEP Deliverable Reminders

CAEP Quarter 2 Expense Report

The Quarter 2 member expense report is to be submitted by the members no later than March 1, 2023. The consortium has until March 31, 2023 to certify the member expense report. *Please note: during this report submission, each member will certify they have either expended the 2020-21 allocation or will return the remaining amount to the State.

CAEP Quarter 3 Student Data

The Quarter 2 student data was due by April 30, 2023 in TOPSPro for K-12 CAEP adult education providers and WIOA-funded community college noncredit providers. Additionally, the employment and earnings follow-up survey was due on the same day, April 30, 2023.


If you have not done so already, submit these deliverables ASAP.

CAEP CFAD for 2023-24

The 2023-24 CFAD, including the Consortia Report on Governance Compliance Rules and Procedures is due by May 2, 2023.
