In partnership with EPIC and Tonga Relief Support of America, the API Caucus invites you for a special session to learn how to support our Pacific Islander community in Tonga. 


On January 15th, the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano erupted, causing massive tsunami waves and devastating the Kingdom of Tonga. Our partners will provide an update on the current situation and ways to help.

On February 24, over 155 API legislators, Constitutional officers, local city officials, legislative staffers, supporters, and community leaders attended the 9th Annual Welcome Reception. The Institute kicked off their 5th Annual Staff Academy mentorship program and APICA is now accepting applications for their legislative internship program.

Elizabeth Mann accepted the Kaivai Taukei award on behalf of her late mother, Catherine ‘Ofa Mann. API Caucus Toa Malosi honoree, Tavae Samuelu shared remarks on paving the way for more Pacific Islander representation in public service. Both honorees exemplify the true meaning of fierce warriors uplifting their communities.

Cal Cities Updates

As housing challenges reach new heights, cities pave the way for millions of homes


The supply and affordability of housing is one of California’s most persistent, high-profile issues. Cities are actively planning, zoning, and approving millions of new homes, but even in the highest-producing cities, there is still an acute lack of housing. This begs a figurative, and increasingly literal, million-dollar question: Why?


Cal Cities announces revised health and safety protocols for events


Due to the decreasing case rates of COVID-19 and lifting of many restrictions throughout the state, Cal Cities is revising its health- and safety-related policies for meetings and events. Beginning March 11, 2022, Cal Cities will align protocols with the state. For most meetings and events, proof of vaccination or negative test will no longer be required. In addition, masks will not be required, however, attendees are urged to follow federal and state recommendations, which strongly recommend wearing masks for indoor events. Read more
