Basic tools like this will help the staff use their time efficiently and make the workday more productive  - we thank you!

Join us tonight for a special screening of the new Washington made movie:  Lucky Them, Director Megan Griffiths is here at 6:30pm for a post film Q&A.  Check out the trailer below.

I went to a screening last night and really enjoyed it! Fantastic shots of western Washington and flashes of familiar music and sights of Seattle, also a certain someone who is in the film was a big surprise treat - but i can't tell you who!

See you at the theater,

In the Seattle set comedy, Lucky Them, a journalist is on the trail of a groundbreaking story that intersects with her own life. Ellie (Toni Collette) is a music critic at an alternative weekly. In her editor's theory, one huge story could throw their print publication back into the spotlight in the cluttered world of digital media. His idea is to send Ellie in search of Matthew Smith, a disappeared rock star thought to be dead, since he hasn't been heard from in years. Though she is reluctant (it's no secret that Ellie has a history with Matthew) with her being his girlfriend at the time of his disappearance. Through a lot of convincing, she reluctantly takes the assignment, dragging along another ex, Charlie (Thomas Hayden Church), an aspiring filmmaker who wants to make a documentary about Ellie's life. Filled with great performances and clever observations about the local music scene, David Chang of Variety calls Lucky Them "an engaging and smart comedy". Read more and watch trailer

This witty, hilarious comedy stars Jenny Slate (Saturday Night Live) as a stand-up comic for whom no subject is too personal for her act. She's just been dumped by her boyfriend, is in a bit of a funk, gets pregnant after a rebound one night stand with Max (Jake Lacy of The Office), and has to figure out what to do. Director Gillian Robespierre's first feature is based on her short film of the same name. The film has received rave reviews for being a rare, honest portrayal of a woman's life that includes abortion. Read more and watch trailer

Charming, gorgeous to look at, funny and incredibly moving, the Iron Giant was a flop upon its original release, but is now widely recognized as a modern classic. Based on the 1968 story 'Iron Man' by the British poet laureate Ted Hughes, this animated feature tells the story of Hogarth, a lonely boy who discovers and befriends an iron giant that fell from space. With the help of a beatnik named Dean, he must stop the U.S. military and a federal agent from finding and destroying the Giant. The Iron Giant takes place in October 1957 in the state of Maine during the height of the Cold War. Voices include: Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Aniston, Vin Diesel, and Cloris Leachman.

Back by popular demand, The Black Lillies are returning to the Northwest to benefit United Way of Thurston County and its work to support vulnerable children and families. Rolling Stone Magazine called the Black Lillies one of the 10 New Artists You Need to Know in 2014: "No independent band has played the Grand Ole Opry more often than the Black Lillies, a co-ed, ragtag group of Knoxville pickers whose songs bridge the gap between Appalachian folk, California folk-rock, bluegrass and jazz." They have been praised for their rootsy flair, mixing rocking folk, honky-tonk country and gospel into a winsome hybrid traditional enough to appeal to an Opry crowd and expansive enough to ensnare a broader audience. Local favorites, the Blackberry Bushes will kick off the night. All net proceeds from the concert will benefit United Way of Thurston County.

There are 125 reasons why the Olympia Film Society can keep movies on the screen, bands on the stage, and popcorn popping at the Capitol Theater, come be a part of the magic!
