It's hard to believe it's already time to begin planning for our Annual Awards Gala! This year's celebration will take place on October 8 at Trophy Mountain Lodge, and we're currently seeking sponsors for our prestigious ATHENA Award and Volunteer of the Year Award.

The internationally recognized ATHENA Award honors an individual who demonstrates professional excellence, community leadership, and a commitment to empowering and mentoring women in their pursuit of leadership and career success. PA Chamber Applauds Senate Rejection of New Taxes on Pennsylvanians

PA Chamber

June 25, 2026

The Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry issued the following statement after the state Senate blocked two amendments that would have raised costs on Pennsylvanians by imposing more than a billion dollars in new taxes through a new digital advertising tax and the implementation of mandatory unitary combined reporting: “We appreciate Senate Republicans standing up for Pennsylvania’s business community and our state’s competitiveness by rejecting this tone-deaf effort to increase costs and complexity for job creators and consumers who are already navigating significant affordability challenges,” PA Chamber Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Jon Anzur said. House Bill 1667 is an omnibus tax measure that includes several proposed changes to Pennsylvania’s tax code. During consideration of the legislation, lawmakers filed several amendments to the bill, including two offered by Senate Democrats that would have established a new, duplicative digital advertising tax and implemented mandatory unitary combined reporting for Pennsylvania’s Corporate Net Income Tax. Both amendments were tabled by the majority party.

House Votes to Revoke Tax Break for Data Center Industry

Ford Turner, The Center Square

June 25, 2026

The state House on Thursday gave bipartisan approval to revoking a sales tax exemption for equipment for data centers, with one supporter equating the industry frenzy in Pennsylvania to an irresponsible and speculative "gold rush." The Democratic-controlled House the previous day passed a bill codifying data center standards backed by Gov. Josh Shaprio, as well as a bill to give municipalities the ability to enact a six-month "pause" on data centers. The data center industry tax break took effect on Jan. 1, 2022. The program eliminated $41.1 million in state revenue in 2024-25 and will eliminate $114.8 million this fiscal year, according to a recent state report. The lost revenue is projected to increase to $517.2 million in 2030-31, the report said. The actions came as both the House and Senate scaled back their voting-day schedules between Thursday and June 30, the final day of the fiscal year and the deadline to produce a state budget. Both the House and Senate are scheduled to return to Harrisburg for voting sessions on Monday.

Why Lawmakers May Need to Tap Pa.'s Rainy Day Reserves to Balance This Year's Budget

Stephen Caruso and Jaxon White, Spotlight PA

June 24, 2026

A rainy day is looming over the state Capitol. As Pennsylvania lawmakers approach the June 30 deadline to pass a budget, they’re facing mounting costs for obligations like healthcare and education. There’s also a multibillion-dollar gap between how much the state expects to spend and what it expects to bring in, even with new revenue options, like taxing soon-to-be-illegal skill games, on the table. That means lawmakers are likely to target the state’s last-ditch reserve fund, commonly called the Rainy Day Fund, to balance the 2026-27 budget. The fund is intended for emergency use only. Lawmakers have painstakingly built it up since 2018, with a current balance of roughly $8 billion. Before that, it sat almost empty during a period of post-recession turmoil. Matthew Knittel, executive director of the Independent Fiscal Office, said in an email it’s “technically” possible to avoid taking money out of the fund to balance the budget. The state “would need either a very large revenue infusion, a very large spending cut, or some combination of the two.” “Based on current dynamics,” Knittel added, “that appears highly unlikely.”

Skill Game Ruling Leaving Pennsylvania Businesses Facing Possible Taxes, New Regulations

Maggie Kent, 6abc

June 16, 2026

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling that classifies skill games as gambling devices is raising concerns among small businesses that rely on the machines for extra revenue.

Gas station employee Kunal Mandhan said customers often stay for long stretches to play.

"They're going to stay all night. They're going to leave when we leave around 11," he said. "Many customers come in, and when they play the games, we expect them to buy more sodas and everything. Even lottery, even Pennsylvania lottery."

Did you know........

Small businesses represent the largest segment by number of most local chamber membership rolls. Results in the research study by The Shapiro Group, Inc. and Market Street indicate the impact of local chamber membership on small businesses is very powerful. If a consumer knows a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business enjoys a 44 percent increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 51 percent increase in consumer awareness, a 57 percent increase in its local reputation and a 63 percent increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.

Research indicates that chamber membership stimulates business-to-business commerce in the local community. Other businesses in town are more likely to do business with you and your company if you are a member of the local chamber. Because a major part of a small business typically comes from business-to-business services, it is essential to maintain a positive standing within the local business community.
