Two Important Public Meetings Tonight
Winter Weather Tips |
Dear Neighbors,
The most significant development of our generation, the redevelopment of the Clybourn Corridor Planned Manufacturing District, is moving toward final conception in the City's North Branch Industrial Corridor Modernization effort. As I have
previously written, this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to create much needed public recreational space for residents now and in the future. Unfortunately, to date, there is no commitment yet to include meaningful park space in a redefined PMD. Recently the 22-acre FINKL Steel site
was purchased for $100M, no doubt, in anticipation of rezoned uses beyond manufacturing. We must not waste this opportunity to create a public asset as well as accommodate private development.
One of the final North Branch Industrial Corridor Modernization meetings is tonight
, December 13th at 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at UI Labs, 1415 N Cherry Avenue
.
You are strongly encouraged to attend and express your support for public recreational space and discuss your experiences in utilizing our area parks, especially for organized team activities.

Keep Warm During Winter Months and Sidewalk Snow Removal
Bitter cold temperatures can pose a serious threat to health and safety.
Should you need to take refuge from extreme cold weather conditions the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) operates six Warming Centers inside of the City's six Community Service Centers during work
weekdays; 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
.
The nearest Warming Center to the 43rd Ward is the
North Area Community Service Center at 845 W. Wilson Avenue.
Additionally, libraries, police stations or other city structures might be made available after hours, on weekends, or on holidays, as conditions warrant. Chicago's seniors can stay warm when they use any of the city's 21 Senior Centers during their regular weekday activities.
To learn the location of the closest available Warming Center at any given time, call 3-1-1. For more helpful tips to stay safe and keep others safe during the winter
Through June 1st landlords must heat residential buildings to at least 68 degrees during the day and 66 degrees overnight or face fines
up to $500 per day. If you are unable to resolve a heating problem with your landlord, call 3-1-1.
We all need to ensure the sidewalks are clear of snow and ice 7 days a week. Individuals who do not comply can face fines of up to $500 per day of violation and businesses can face fines of up to $1,000 per day. Click here to review the city brochure on proper snow removal from sidewalks, how to report locations that are not clear, and who is responsible for removal.
