Sometimes this band is just too big! At 10 pieces we just don’t fit into a lot of clubs, so for select dates, the Jones Factor is going “Lite”! The sextet will be performing some of the same Jones Factor hits, but with a smaller band. This time around we feature Don Harris on trumpet, Bill Harris on Tenor Sax, John Fumasoli on trombone, Rob Aries on keys, Dave Anderson on bass, and Tyger MacNeal on drums.
The Jones Factor Lite is a 6 piece version of the very popular10 piece Jones Factor little big band. The Jones Factor was formed in 1986 by trombonist and bandleader John Fumasoli. Looking for something smaller than a big band, and larger than his trombone septet, which featured Eddie Bert and a teenager named Joey Calderazzo, Fumasoli decided to embark on a project that can best be described as “front burner/back burner” with the instrumentation of a pared-down big band, and the addition of French horn. Early on the group had a steady Wednesday night gig in Stamford Ct. for nearly two years at a place called Pauline’s, on Atlantic St. and the venue was a great room for musicians and writers including Lonnie Smith and Melvin Sparks. The Jones Factor (at the time called the Jazz Collective) welcomed numerous writers and musicians and was a collective for musicians in the area for performing, writing, and networking. Towards the end of the stint at Pauline's, trumpeter Tony Kadleck brought his original chart to the band “The Jones Factor” hence the name change. Over the years the book has grown to over a hundred charts covering many different styles including Bop, Hard Bop, Latin, Blues, Funk, and Hip Hop. The unique instrumentation allows for a great variety of textures, colors, and sounds and the diversity of its players makes for exciting performances. The Jones Factor has put out two CD’s “Collective Jazz” and “Blast From the Past” and is completing its third recording "The Time is Now".
The Jones Factor, a dynamic performing ensemble that it is, draws its players from diverse musical backgrounds who are equally at home playing just about anything as their credits show. Those credits include; The Village Vanguard Orchestra, Woody Herman Orchestra, Gerry Mulligan, Roland Vasquez, Rufus Reid, Grady Tate, Cornell Dupree, Claudio Roditi, Will Lee, Randy Brecker, Kenwood Dennard, Donald Harrison, Nancy Wilson, B. B. King, Dianne Reeves, Tito Puente, Frank Sinatra, Bill Evans, Jean Luc-Ponty, Kenny Garrett, Tony Bennett, Bobby McFerrin, the Maria Schneider Orchestra, NYC Opera, NYC Ballet, N.J. Symphony, Steely Dan, Elton John, Smokey Robinson, Dianna Ross, and the Average White Band to name a few!

PRESS REVIEWS "Two of the best! Trombonists Alan Goidel and Howard Levy have both enjoyed successful and highly respected careers performing with the major orchestras of the US. The performance on this recording offers fresh arrangements of jazz, standards, popular songs, hard bop, and originals. Perky, full of zest, and rich in surprises, this is a very special album that shines on every level." GRADY HARP, TOP 100 REVIEWER OF AMAZON "
... Alan Goidel and Howard Levy bring grace and beauty to and through the big horns in compositions that are fun, joyful, and brilliant." TRAVIS L ROGERS JR., THE SENTINEL
"Slide Attack blends elements of vintage and modern jazz as they play fast and fluidly through nine original compositions. Goidel and Levy are straight-forward, unpretentious players who emphasize sensibility over flamboyance. Together, the two-trombone quintet features pliable musicians who work well together. They also show how that instrument can be centerstage and plugged into more than just nostalgic traditional arrangements." JOE ROSS, ROOTS MUSIC REPORT
"Sweet slidin’ jazz. There’s nothing more invigorating for this reviewer than waking up to that good ol’ sweet slidin’ jazz… trombonists Alan Goidel and Howard Levy lead this fantastically talented quintet. I give Howard, Alan and all the players a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rating, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) score of 4.98." DICK METCALF, EDITOR, CONTEMPORARY FUSION REVIEWS
"Inspired by those cool Johnson/Winding blowing dates you found in your grandpa’s basement that made you wonder why you didn’t know he was so hip, this bone duo blows up a solid, straight ahead jazz storm that finds them in the company of a trio of cats that know how to make originals feel like chestnuts you just can’t place. Fun stuff throughout, this can easily make your backyard a night out." CHRIS SPECTOR, MIDWEST RECORD
