YOUTH MINISTRY UPDATE: OCTOBER 2021
I'm composing this email when there is still 7 days left in the month of September. Why? Because there are lots of great reminders for early October happenings! October 2021 is chock-full of opportunities for our youth and their families and friends.

October 2021 is also a month I'll never forget because, unless something changes, Ashley and I will be welcoming our second daughter, Melody Aletheia, into the world on Monday, October 4th. "Melody" is after both sides of the family having a love and talent for music, especially my grandmother. "Aletheia" (pronounced "Ah-lay-thay-ah") is the Greek word used in the Bible for "truth." Not only do Ashley and I believe this is a beautiful name, but we also hope that it will be reflective of who our daughter is. We hope that she will know the Truth and that the Truth will set her free (as in John 8:32). We also pray that she will speak truth about the Truth (Jesus Himself, as He states in John 14:6) to a culture that doesn't want to hear it. We pray she'll be bold and that she'll be used by Him to bring glory to His name.

We want First Baptist Student Ministries to be a place that our students can be themselves and find a place to connect with God and with each other. We want our students to have fun, we want them to learn, we want them to worship and serve, and we want them to enjoy being around each other, too. Anything that we can do to foster that environment that you'd like to see, please let me know!

With YOUth on My Heart,

Jonathan D. Hale <><

Smaller & Deeper-- A Real Keeper!
Wednesday Night Small Groups
We've started this year off together as one large small group. We've been hard at work building trust and goals for a great year and great years ahead. We pray the Lord uses these times together across ALL our youth group opportunities, both on Wednesdays, Sundays, &special events.

In October, as we wrap up "Embark," we'll move forward in our 2 smaller small groups, led by Sherry & Jonathan. We'll also be bringing back A.C.T.I.O.N. Wednesdays with Amy before too long! We hope you'll come. We're better with you.
Jonathan & Sherry can't wait to see you!

Every Wednesday Night
5:45-7:15 p.m.
Sunday Night Youth Group
October has a few surprises!
Our food has been good, our games have been fun, and our discussions have been meaningful so far at our Sunday night youth group meetings! Our "Asking For a Friend" series will conclude with our special "Meme Theology" session. We'll also have family night at Midway. On Halloween night, we have a special outreach during youth group time that includes trick-or-treating! On the "regular" (is any Sunday really regular? c'mon now, they're ALL special) but anyway, we're going to dive into one of Jesus' most popular teachings-- his parable of the Prodigal Son. What does this have to teach us today? Lots. We hope you'll all be here and bring a friend (and/or a classmate)!

Kenya Fundraiser • October 2
IF YOU STILL WANT TO JOIN THE KENYA MISSION TEAM, YOU CAN! LET JONATHAN KNOW ASAP!!!
All Kenya Mission Team members (and anyone else who wants to help the effort) will be helping to get a yard sale together during the month of September to have on October 2. If you have any donations, please call Catrinia Sutton at 704-796-2204 to make an appointment for drop-off. Otherwise, we'll be in touch with all team members about ways you can help make this a success!
"MEME Theology"
Sunday, October 3
Youth, parents, and anyone else who'd like to join in will be challenged and entertained taking a look at how to spot and interpret religious internet memes and TikToks. Adam Tucker, our special guest speaker and master apologist, will be sharing an interactive (that means he's not doing an hour-long lecture, y'all) presentation where you'll get to participate and practice what you're learning right on the spot. Don't miss this special night!
First Baptist Tailgate
Friday, October 8
A.L. Brown has a home game against West Cabarrus on Friday, October 8. Tim Beane (father of West Cabarrus player, Caleb Beane) and Daniel Wallace (also a tailgating master) are teaming up to make this an awesome tailgate with food, fellowship, and football to follow the tailgate. We'll do some giveaways and mostly just have a great time together. Invite your friends! Cost is donations only.
This will replace regularly-scheduled youth group programming. All youth (and their families) are encouraged to attend!
A.C.T.I.O.N. Wednesday is Back on October 20! Sherry's Group is going to Esther's Heart & Jonathan's group will be preparing special football treat bags & bags for our Halloween outreach.

You get the picture... it's going to be a lot of fun! You won't want to miss today! Corn Maze (group rate) for us is going to be $8. If you bring $20, it should more than cover your expenses for the evening, but let Jonathan know if you need any assistance. We want you all to come (and to bring friends/classmates with you)!
Church-Wide Trunk-or-Treat
Saturday, October 30
3:00-5:00 p.m. at Midway Field
This event is for all ages! If you have a car/truck, then we'd love to have you decorate it and be present for this church and community event! If you're willing to decorate your trunk, email Candice to let her know. There will be prizes for the best-decorated trunks!
Holy Ghost Weenie Roast
Halloween Night • 5:00-8:30 p.m.
This year, Halloween is on a Sunday. We're moving our annual "Holy Ghost Weenie Roast" from Wednesday to Sunday and amping it up-- a lot! We're going to meet at Jonathan and Ashley's front yard to do candy distribution (with info about our church) and then take turns helping with that and going trick-or-treating yourselves! Jonathan and Ashley's neighborhood has HUNDREDS of trick-or-treaters, so you will have no shortage of opportunity for a fun night doing what you always do-- but adding to it with an opportunity for outreach and youth group fun.

We'll also have tons of hot dogs & marshmallows, a giant blow-up screen movie, and a costume contest (with a good prize)! You'll definitely want to be a part of this (and invite your friends/classmates).

Please carpool and/or have your parents drop-off/pick-up because of the LARGE traffic volume in the neighborhood on Halloween night.

Mystery Retreat
November 5-7
(Deposits due October 3)

Get clues with Instagram "likes." Talk with your youth group members and work together to find out where you're going! It's going to be a great time. The main goals are to grow closer to God and to each other. Take the risk, get the reward!
Sunday, November 14

This Sunday, the Carolina Panthers play the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona, so kick-off isn't until 4pm EST. This gives us PLENTY of time to have an awesome tailgate as a church family immediately following worship, outside at the Railroad Parking lot! Dress casually (in your Panthers gear, if you have it!) and get ready for a great day.
