Too Many Anniversaries

It was already going to be a month of terrible anniversaries.
May 14 marks one year since a white supremacist rampaged through a grocery store in Buffalo, killing 10.
On May 24, it will be one year since the horrors at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, when 19 children and two teachers were killed in their classrooms.
And in June, it will be one year since a man walked into a potluck supper at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama and shot three people dead.
Given the pace of gun violence in our country – there were nearly 50 shootings in the United States in the past year in which four or more people died – it was unlikely that we would only be marking anniversaries this month. And sure enough, last Saturday, yet another angry person with easy access to assault weapons was able to quickly end the lives of innocent people. This time it was in our backyard, at a mall in Allen where many of our parishioners regularly shop.

Oh My!
This Sunday, May 14, Bishop Neil Alexander will be with us for both Sunday services. Bishop Smith is unable to attend and Bishop Alexander, in his stead, will confirm, receive, and witness the reaffirmation of baptismal vows at the 11:15am service. A reception will follow the 11:15am service in the Gathering Space.

Peace Post on Gun Violence
This Sunday, May 14 our chapter of Episcopal Peace Fellowship is sponsoring a special gathering of Peace Post. Translate your worry and anger at the prevalence of gun violence in our society into advocacy to our elected officials. Episcopal Peace Fellowship will provide the stationary, stamps, and information; you provide the words.
Join us in adding your voice this Sunday from 10:00am – 11:00am and 12:15pm –1:00pm in the Church Office Lobby.

Food Pantry
Every third Monday of the month, the Fig Food Pantry puts together grocery orders for families in need. Volunteers of all ages are needed and welcome. No special skills required.
Join us in Roper Hall this Monday, May 15 from 10:30am to 6:00pm - stay all day or come for an hour. Walk-ins are welcome.

Silent Auction &
Fish Fry Return
After a four year hiatus, Episcopal Men’s Fellowship will be hosting its annual Silent Auction and Fish Fry.
Join us Sunday, June 4, from 4:30-7:30pm for the biggest fundraiser of the year as EMF auctions off items ranging from sporting goods and jewelry to concert tickets and vacation getaways. All proceeds benefit ministries and outreach projects that our church supports. Cost will be $10 per person or $25 per family.
Preregister so you’ll be ready when the bidding opens.

All 4th & 5th graders are invited to our last Impact Kids for this season on Wednesday May17 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in classroom S203. During our time-together the kids experience fellowship and conversation; then explore how they can make an impact as kids in the lives of others.
Kids will learn that serving others is, compassion in action, and understand as Christians we are called to this as a way of life.
