It's About the Children

We want to thank our students, faculty and staff, and parents for a strong start to the school year. It was a treat for us to welcome our students and their parents back to school, celebrate Mass together, and begin establishing the routines necessary for a successful school year. We are looking forward to great things on the horizon.

We pray that everyone enjoys a safe and joyous Labor Day Weekend. We look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Tuesday.
Allowing Time for an Adjustment
I know news that the dress code was going to be enforced as written caught many people by surprise this week. I'm hopeful that I do not run across other items in our handbook that are in writing but were not previously enforced. That puts me in a difficult position, and as you can imagine. I appreciate your understanding of the importance of these guidelines as our school community strives for consistency.

If your child's shoes do not meet our current dress code, I'll allow forgiveness until the end of September for families to secure dress shoes. I hope this time helps families needing to make an unexpected dress code purchase early in the school year.

Dress Code Reminders:
For grades 1-8 students, shoes worn on non-gym days must be black dress shoes that fasten. Black canvas sneakers/skate shoes are not an option on uniform days.

Students are not to wear nail polish to school.

Skirts for girls should be no more than 2 inches above their knee.

Shoes worn on gym days should be primarily white. Logos or minimal accent color is okay.

Thinking about High School
We know that even at the start of the year, many of our 8th grade students are already thinking about their high school options. I know that Holy Cross Academy graduates attend a variety of different private and pubic schools in our area. I am excited to work collaboratively with our students, parents, and faculty in finding the right fit for our graduates, whether that is a parochial, independent, or a public institution.

We want all our students to land in an academic setting where they can thrive and set themselves up for a bright future ahead.

We will host a Transitioning to High School Night on Thursday, November 14. That event is open to parents of all HCA students. Please mark your calendar now.
Chromebook Meeting
We will have a meeting on Thursday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m. for any parents wishing to learn more about the 6th grade Chromebook initiative.
