Top 5 things to know for the week of December 2-6, 2024

Farmington Public Schools is committed to the growth of our staff

Farmington Public Schools is committed to the growth of our staff and providing professional learning days and November 5th was one of those days. This one day provided a total of 6,192 hours of professional learning for teachers, paraprofessionals, and secretaries.

Elementary educators met by grade levels and spent time collaborating to expand their understanding of new literacy resources. Middle School educators continued to design for deeper learning through Project Based Learning with our New Tech Network partners. High School educators joined a virtual conference developed by Oakland Schools that provided choices aligned to the theme of Education for All. Our art, music, and physical education staff found joy in learning through tile making with Pewabic Tile, making music through an Orff Approach, and Hand Ball with the Detroit Handball Club. English Language Learner and Special Education paraprofessionals learned more about culturally responsive approaches to supporting student behavior. Secretaries clarified understanding of processes to build effectiveness and efficiencies in their work.

All learning aligns with our FPS Profile of a Lifelong Learner and our enduring instructional focus on Positioning, Authenticity, and Noticing. The structure and design was influenced by our strategic planning goal area of Collaborative Professional Learning that supports Equity & Innovation.

We are so thankful for the collaborative effort between central office and building level leadership that brought this exciting day of learning to life.

Visions Unlimited students create gifts for the holidays

Our Visions Unlimited students have worked hard to create special gifts that can be purchased for the holidays. You won't regret purchasing these wonderful gifts and supporting such a great program for our learners.

Visions Unlimited is our post-secondary program. The School serves young adults, 18 to 26-years-old, who have physical and developmental disabilities. Their production shop is a micro-enterprise operation set up to provide the students with work-related experiences. This micro-enterprise environment exposes students to real life work situations to help them follow instructions, build stamina, and increase dexterity. Students use their imagination to create their products.

We are entering the Holiday season, our students have been working hard all year to help you make your gift giving easier! Order online or send an email with your order to vume@fpsk12.net.

Holly Days activities this Saturday - something for everyone!

You won't want to miss all of the wonderful events happening in our community this weekend! If the weather is warm enough on Saturday during the Parade, FHS and NFHS band members will come together for a combined marching band. They will be sure to be one of the highlights!! (Too cold of weather affects the instruments, so we are hoping for warmer weather!)
