Farmington High School English Students interviewed by WXYZ about Artificial Intelligence

Last week, Mr. Cooper Franks and his 10th grade English class were interviewed by WXYZ Channel 7 on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it affects life inside and outside the classroom. The students spoke about their use of AI including how it helps them study and prepare for tests, the dangers of using AI, how to know if the information is true, and their overall opinions on the subject.

FPS has a focus on Authentic Learning, compelling students to explore the idea of AI and how it can be utilized in the learning experience which is a great example of this. FPS is committed to providing an equitable learning experience for each and every student and ensuring we live into our Profile of a Lifelong Learner, and Artificial Intelligence has the potential to support this commitment.

Nesting AI into teaching and learning environments can support learning today and can prepare students for the future. With this potential, we also recognize that privacy and safety are of utmost importance. Farmington Public Schools uses an AI vetting process as we consider what tools to nest in our system.

The Director of Curriculum Services, Margaret Hendrickson, was also interviewed. The story will air locally sometime this week and nationally at a later time. As soon as we hear when, we will share that information with all of you. #FPSSuccess

Board Community Dialogue on STEM/STEAM Opportunities - Tuesday, February 4

The Farmington Public Schools’ (FPS) Board of Education is hosting a Community Dialogue with the topic of STEAM Opportunities at FPS. The Dialogue will be held Tuesday, February 4, at 6:30 p.m.

From the recent Cobalt Community Survey, parents and community members were interested in more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) opportunities for students.

This important dialogue is a great opportunity to interact and to get to know your school board members and engage in a discussion about STEAM opportunities.

The event will be held at the Maxfield Education Center located at 32789 W. Ten Mile Road in Farmington. Attendees are asked to park in the South parking lot. Light refreshments will be served.
