Thank you to our Board of Education members especially during January which is School Board Appreciation Month!

Farmington Public Schools is joining 537 local and 56 intermediate school districts across Michigan to celebrate January as School Board Recognition Month. 


"School board members represent the views and priorities of their community in the complex system of maintaining and running a district’s public schools," Coffin said.


"We are thankful for all that they do for Farmington Public Schools and celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one of the very small ways to express appreciation for all they do."

Farmington/Farmington Hills Optimist Club holds Essay Contest for middle and high school students


The Farmington/Farmington Hills Optimist Club is calling all middle and high school students to use their writing skills to express their views on "How Optimism Has Paved My Road to Success" in their annual Essay Contest. Students in High School have the chance to win $500-First Place, $350-Second Place, $200-Third Place. The High School Winner's Essay will advance to the Statewide District Level in the Spring where the overall winner receives a $2,500 scholarship.


Students in middle school have the chance to win $250-First Place, $200-Second Place, $150-Third Place.


Essay Requirement: 700-800 words

Deadline: Tuesday, January 21, 2025

Award Breakfast Ceremony: Winning students, and their families, will be invited to a breakfast on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 7:30 a.m. to be given their awards and to share their essays. The Breakfast will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Farmington.

FPS Teachers of the Year to be recognized at the School Board Meeting on Tuesday, January 7

Right before break, visits were made to four different schools in the District to surprise those educators who were selected as the FPS Teachers of the Year for the 2024-25 school year. The following educators will be honored at the Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday, January 7. There will be a reception starting at 5:45 p.m.with the meeting starting at 6 p.m.

Newly elected School Board Members to be sworn it at the January 7 Board Meeting

Incumbent Claudia Heinrich and newly elected Board member Thomas Hull will be sworn in at the Tuesday, January 7 Board of Education Meeting to start their terms of service. Congratulations again to Heinrich and Thomas for their willingness to serve and support the students, families, and employees of Farmington Public Schools.

Young 5s Program Information Meeting to be held on Wednesday, January 22

We are hosting an informational meeting for the Young 5s Program for the 2025/2026 school year. The informational meeting on Wednesday, January 22 is for parents and guardians only, and will take place at Hillside Elementary School located at 36801 W. Eleven Mile Road, in Farmington Hills from 6 - 6:45 PM.  


This meeting will allow parents and guardians to meet the current Young 5s’ teachers and other families in the program. Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the optional free program that is designed specifically for our youngest learners.


Applications for the Young 5s program will be accepted starting on February 1, 2025. Students must turn five years old between June 1 and December 1 of 2025 to participate in the program. The Young 5s program is only at specific locations throughout the District, and space in the program is limited.
