Many companies focus on strategies for customer acquisition but how many focus on customer retention?  As has been reported many times, it is much more costly to acquire a new customer than it is to retain the ones you already have.  Nurturing existing customer relationships is key for successful organizations.  How do you do this?  In this newsletter, we are going to discuss the top 5 ways to nurture your existing customers.

Top 5 Ways to Nurture Your Existing Clients:
  1. Check-in on a regular basis - see how your customers are doing.  Perhaps ask if they are considering any projects now or in the near future.  If you have recently sold something, it is always a good idea to check-in and see if they are satisfied.  If you do get negative feedback or a request for a proposal - be sure to follow-up immediately.
  2. Share useful information - notify clients of the successes you have had within their industry.  You can do this by sharing images, videos, White Papers, etc.  You can also send relevant news articles - something from a trade publication, announcements of new government grants that may apply to them, etc.
  3. Write a thank-you note - I personally think it is nice to write a hand written thank-you note to show appreciation to a client after a sale but even a thank-you email is a nice gesture.  This lets the customer know you value their business.
  4. Invite clients to events - maybe you are going to be an exhibitor at a trade show?  It is always a good idea to let clients know and extend an invite for them to attend as a participant.  Perhaps host a lunch and learn on a new product or service.  If you belong to a Board of Trade or Chamber of Commerce, consider inviting an existing client to join you at a networking event.
  5. Social Media - post updates, news articles and success stories on social media - Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
