Ace Hardware's Customer Service?
In the wake of intense competition from such gigantic and well run stores like Home Depot and Lowes, how is it that Ace Hardware has done so well?
On the surface, it seems like the key is customer service. I travel quite a bit, and no matter what Ace store I go into, I am greeted with friendly and extremely knowledgeable staff.
As we head into the 4th quarter, I suggest each of you visit an Ace Hardware store. What are they doing that you can learn from and bring back to your staff.
Set the bar high this season. See if your staff can be just as friendly and knowledgeable as your local hardware store.
An Increasingly Moral Dilemma
What is the rep's responsibility when representing a line that is a blatant knock off?
I have become increasingly uncomfortable with having copycat items in my portfolio. In almost every instance, these items come to me from existing lines that we already work with. They decided to add to their unique, proprietary products, by going out and copying someone else.
As this is still work in progress for me, here's where I am. I show the knock off product that I have. I state that this is not the original. I tell my customer the name of the original, where to get it, and how much it sells for. I also tell them why the original is better (in most cases it is) than the product I have. That being said, I tell them about my product, the cost (usually cheaper) and let them decide what to do.

I certainly welcome your feedback on this, increasingly more common issue.
