Welcome to the pack!

Our pack is growing! To best support the cats and dogs that paw through our doors, Five Acres is proud to welcome two new team members to our organization.

Dr. Kathryn Kettenbach is joining us as our first-ever staff veterinarian! Having a vet on our team is a huge asset to our animals and to our mission. This means we are able to provide faster, more consistent care to our pets on an almost daily basis, making animals adoption-ready much quicker. This also enables us to do exams and basic diagnostic tests on our animals in-house, rather than needing to transport them to a local vet, ensuring quicker quality care.

Matt Mason is joining our team as the Behavior & Training Manager for our canines. Having this position on board will help us create individualized training and behavioral care plans for each of our dogs, likely reducing their stress in the kennel and their length of stay in the shelter. Caring for dogs' mental and emotional well-being is incredibly important in a shelter environment, and we are excited to expand in this area. We hope to also be able to provide training services to the public later this year. This position is made possible by a very generous grant from Treat Planet.

We are looking for foster homes for some very special cats! Each of these cats are positive for Feline Leukemia (FELV) and are looking for foster or adoptive homes. Five Acres is proud to be one of the few shelters that has dedicated space for FELV cats, as unfortunately many are euthanized upon diagnosis. While we are happy to be able to rescue so many of these cats, are rooms are full and we are receiving more requests than we can keep up with!

Placing these cats into homes would help immensely, as it gets these cats into a cozier home environment, and helps free up space for more cats in need. FELV cats cannot live with other cats who do not have the condition, but can safely live with dogs.

You can learn more about each of these cats HERE, and apply to be a foster home below! Our team would love to help match you with a cat.

I want to foster!

Thank you, Purina!

Five Acres is so grateful to be the recipient of a generous $10,000 grant from Purina! These funds will be used to support the growth and expansion of in-house medical services for our animals. This may include equipment for dental operations, bloodwork, or other small procedures, providing efficient and quality veterinary care for our animals.

This gift is truly life-saving for the dogs and cats at Five Acres! We are incredibly grateful to Purina for this donation and for all of the amazing work they do in our community.

Sammy needs a home - to help save her life!

We recently learned that sweet Sammy is positive for heartworm disease, a condition that can be deadly when left undetected and untreated. Treatment for heartworm is long and uncomfortable, and it is our hope that Sammy can go through this treatment in the comfort of a home, rather than in the stressful shelter environment. Could you give Sammy a soft place to rest her paws while she undergoes treatment?

Our team will tell you and provide everything you need to care for Sammy. While she can be in a home with other animals, she must be able to stay calm and comfortable during her treatment. Sammy has recently passed her Canine Good Citizen test so we know she will have great manners while she's in your home!

Sammy would benefit from a foster home, or can go to a home as a foster-to-adopt, meaning she will be able to stay in your home as a foster until she is healthy and ready to have her adoption finalized.
