CBHA will honor three leading Illinois behavioral health professionals for their dedication and lifelong commitment to the behavioral health field at our annual conference in Schaumburg on December 6th.
CBHA will bestow its prestigious Ellen T. Quinn Memorial Award, posthumously, to the late Bruce R. Angleman, formerly of the Heritage Behavioral Health Center in Decatur. And the group’s equally coveted Frank Anselmo Lifetime Achievement Award will go to John Markley of Centerstone, Inc. in West Frankfort, IL and to Mark Sanders, CEO of Onthemark Consulting in Chicago.
Angleman, who died in June 2021 shortly after retiring, worked for Heritage for more than 24 years, beginning his career with this organization in 1997. He held various positions throughout his tenure in the substance use and criminal justice programs – from case manager, to therapist, and management leadership.
“Bruce can be credited in helping to guide Community Behavioral Health Association’s substance use policy priorities for more than a decade,” said CBHA CEO, Marvin Lindsey. “He was dependable, and he dedicated over 40 years to the field of substance use treatment and recovery. He helped hundreds upon hundreds of people on the road to recovery.”
Markley, MBA, is the Regional Chief Executive Officer of Centerstone. He is responsible for the leadership and operational oversight of Centerstone’s clinical divisions, specialized services, as well as strategic business development and fiscal accountability. John has worked for Centerstone and its legacy organizations for 37 years, starting out as a staff accountant.
“Under John’s leadership, Centerstone in Illinois has grown from an agency primarily serving two counties, to an organization expanding across eight primary Southern Illinois counties and has services across five other states,” said Lindsey. “Centerstone’s growth under John has expanded behavioral health care to thousands of Southern Illinois residents who would have otherwise gone without.”
Sanders, LCSW, CADC, CEO of Onthemark Consulting and co-founder of Serenity Academy of Chicago, the only recovery high school in Illinois, has been a certified addictions counselor for 34 years as well as a licensed clinical social worker, international speaker, trainer, and consultant.
“Mark, who is the author of five books, has dedicated his professional life to the behavioral health field,” said Lindsey. “He has advised state behavioral health departments and community behavioral health agencies in Illinois and around the country during several decades, and his work has reached thousands throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, and British Islands.”
