Welcome Reception for
Rev. Dr. Bill Ekhardt
Join us on Sunday, September 2, when we officially welcome Pastor Bill as our new Associate Pastor, Chief of Staff.

A reception to honor Pastor Bill will be held in The Commons following worship. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend.
Sunday, September 2,
10:00 a.m.

  • We will celebrate Holy Communion together.

  • Pastor Scott will preach "Struggling with Integrity.”

  • Psalm 45:1-2, 6-9 & Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23 are the Scripture readings.

Please note, the worship start time change mentioned in worship and in e-mails will begin September 9.

Dinner in the Garden
September 22, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Mark your calendars for Dinner in the Garden. This will be a wonderful opportunity to get to know our
refugee neighbors who have plots in our garden, and for fellowship with our church family. Children are welcome! Participants are encouraged to bring a dish to share. Plates, utensils, and drinks will be provided. Joel Kinser will provide music after dinner.

Volunteers Needed
This year we are taking a new approach to Sunday School. Children will engage with Bible stories through a variety of workshops including technology, theatre, crafts, science, cooking, and more.

To do this we need your support. Our lessons will last for a 4-week period from 10:30-11:15 a.m. You can choose to volunteer for one 4-week session or to help with several!

  • Preschool Sunday School Teachers
  • We also need volunteers to help with planning and collecting materials for our workshops.
  • Supervision during Dinner, from 5:30-6:00 p.m.
  • Recreation Leaders from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Small Group Leaders from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Set-up Helpers, from 7:00- 7:15 p.m.

Preschool and Developmental Kindergarten Openings
Westminster's preschool and developmental kindergarten programs still have openings.

Calling all Legos
We are seeking donations of traditional Legos for use in our Wednesday night and Sunday morning programming. Please bring donations to the church office or contact Tiffany Hays.
New Rehearsal Time for Westminster Chorale
Westminster Chorale will resume weekly rehearsals on Thursday, September 6. Please note the new rehearsal time: 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Rehearsals are held in the choir room. The Chorale is open to all singers grade 6 and up, no prior experience needed. A variety of music is presented each week in worship, and the choir enjoys the fellowship with each other and with the congregation. You are most welcome to give Chorale a try!
Friday Office Hours
The office closes at noon on Fridays, now through Labor Day weekend.

Group Information
Westminster is a fairly large church with nearly 1100 members. Small groups help bring the church down to a manageable size. We have numerous groups that bring together folks with similar interests.

Restaurant Group 1 will meet Saturday, September 1 at 5:15 p.m. at Maxie's Restaurant, 1311 Grand Ave., West Des Moines. All are welcome to join us! Call the office at 274-1534 to make reservations.
Restaurant Group 2 meets the third Saturday of the month. Their next gathering is being planned.
Pizza Lovers' Group meets the second Tuesday of the month.
Their next meeting is September 11, at 5:15 p.m., at Godfather's on University, Des Moines.
Stitchin’ Time will meet Thursday, September 27, at 1:00 p.m. in Hope Alcove. Bring your knitting, crocheting or sewing, and join us!
Afternoon Bridge will meet Friday, September 28, at 1:00 p.m. in Simmerman Lounge. R.S.V.P. to 274-1534 if you'd like to join in!
Men's Group meets each Wednesday for breakfast at 
6:30 a.m., at the Waveland Cafe.
The Gay-Lesbian-Straight Affirmation Group's next meeting will be Sunday, September 23, 10:30 a.m. in the Seminary Center.
Men’s Basketball meets every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in The Commons.
