A FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD

PET REMINDER

In the City of Fort Wright, we take pride in our beautiful neighborhoods, walkable streets, and strong sense of community. Many of our residents enjoy spending time outdoors with their dogs, and we love seeing our public spaces and sidewalks used and appreciated.

While the City does not have a formal pet waste disposal policy often referred to as “pooper scooper” legislation, we kindly encourage all pet owners to clean up after their dogs as a simple act of courtesy. Leaving pet waste behind can impact the cleanliness of our shared spaces, create unpleasant experiences for neighbors, and negatively impact the overall appearance of our community.

Carrying a small bag (and disposing of it properly) during walks and promptly picking up after your pet is an easy way to show respect for your neighbors and help keep Fort Wright welcoming for everyone. It’s these small, thoughtful actions that make a big difference.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Fort Wright clean, safe, and neighborly.

Celebrating

America’s 250th Anniversary!

Please proudly display

the American Flag

As our nation approaches the historic milestone of the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, there is no better time for residents to come together in a shared expression of pride and unity. One of the simplest - and most meaningful - ways to do so is by proudly displaying the American flag at your home or business.

The American flag stands as a powerful symbol of freedom, resilience, and the enduring spirit of our country. For 250 years, it has represented the ideals that bind us together—liberty, opportunity, and community. Displaying the flag is more than a gesture; it is a visible reminder of the sacrifices made by generations of Americans and a celebration of the future we continue to build together.

Whether mounted on the front of your home or flown from a flagpole each flag contributes to a broader sense of civic pride. Neighborhoods adorned with red, white, and blue serve as a unifying tribute to this once-in-a-generation anniversary.

As we prepare to celebrate this historic occasion, we ask that you proudly and properly fly the American Flag by raising it respectfully, illuminate it at night if flown after dark, and maintain it in a good condition. These small acts reflect the deep respect we share for our nation and its history.

Let this anniversary be an opportunity to renew our sense of community and patriotism. By proudly displaying the American flag, we honor 250 years of American history - and help inspire the generations still to come.

KLC Cities Drive Kentucky License Plate Hits Production

The Kentucky League of Cities’ (KLC) Cities Drive Kentucky license plate officially entered production on Feb. 27. It is now available for purchase online and is expected in local county clerk offices across Kentucky sometime in April.

Proceeds from the Cities Drive Kentucky plate support the KLC Cities Helping Cities Fund, a disaster-relief initiative helping Kentucky cities respond quickly to natural disasters. Funds from the plate provide immediate aid to cities hit by tornadoes, flooding, hail, severe storms, and other emergencies.

Kentucky cities are vital — serving as hubs for utilities, public safety, emergency response, and essential services. Most Kentuckians work, attend school, or use services in a city. Restoring city operations after a disaster is essential for community recovery.

“Cities are often the first to respond after a disaster,” said KLC President and Beaver Dam Mayor Paul Sandefur. “When utilities, public safety, and city facilities are disrupted, it affects everyone — not just city residents. This license plate is a meaningful way for Kentuckians to support the cities that keep their communities running, especially in moments when help is needed most.”

“Cities truly drive Kentucky,” said KLC Executive Director/CEO J.D. Chaney. “We are proud to be able to provide this and thank the Department of Transportation for working with us to offer a new approach to disaster recovery.”

KLC Insurance data show the growing need for rapid disaster response. From 2021 to early 2026, storms, tornadoes, hail, and flooding caused tens of millions of dollars in damage to Kentucky cities. In 2025 alone, damages topped $22 million.

The Cities Helping Cities Fund enables KLC to respond immediately after disasters — helping cities stabilize, support first responders, and begin recovery without delay.

Each plate costs $44 a year. The state gives $10 from each sale to KLC, which will use 100% of those funds for the Cities Helping Cities fund. Plates can be purchased at the time of vehicle registration renewal.

Why Your Address Matters:

Keeping YOUR Insurance Premium Tax Dollars in the City of Fort Wright

Residents of Fort Wright may not always realize that something as simple as the City listed on their insurance policies can have a meaningful impact on our community. Insurance premium taxes—applied to policies such as homeowners, auto, and life insurance—are collected based on the City listed as your address. These funds go directly to support essential local services, including police and fire protection, infrastructure, and community improvements.

Because many Fort Wright residents have a mailing address that defaults to Covington, insurance providers may incorrectly assign your policy to Covington. This means the associated tax revenue - which the City of Covington assesses at a higher rate than the City of Fort Wright - goes to the City of Covington or another adjacent community if listed as such instead of supporting the services you rely on here at home.

The City of Fort Wright maintains a lower insurance premium tax rate than the City of Covington, making it both financially beneficial for residents and vital for our City’s continued growth that policies are properly coded. By ensuring your insurance provider lists your address as “Fort Wright” rather than “Covington,” you help keep those dollars invested in your own neighborhood.

What You Can Do:

  • Review your current insurance policies and billing addresses.
  • Contact your insurance agent or provider if your city is listed incorrectly.
  • Request that your billing address be updated to “Fort Wright, KY.”

This small step helps ensure fairness, supports local services, and strengthens the future of Fort Wright. Thank you!
