Property Tax Bills

Fiscal Year 24-25

The Fort Wright City Council has authorized a substantial reduction in the City’s property tax rate for fiscal year 2024-25. This action reduces real property tax rates to the lowest tax rate imposed in more than a decade, a reflection of the City’s commitment to fiscal management and the responsible stewardship of tax payer dollars.

You can view the historical rates here.

City Council voted unanimously to lower the current Real Property Tax Rate of $2.48 per one thousand dollars of assessed value to $2.15 per one thousand dollars of assessed value. This reduction reflects a 13.31% decrease in the rate and rolls the property tax rate back to 2009 – a time when the country was still recovering from the nationwide financial crisis of 2008 and we had historically some of the lowest property tax rates in the last 15 years.

As always, the meeting was open to the public and held at City Hall.

Property tax bills are expected to be mailed to property owners by early to mid November, and are due by 5 pm on Tuesday, December 31st, 2024. Postmarks will be accepted.

Safe Internet Shopping
Exchange Zone

In today’s social media world more and more people are conducting the exchange/sale of items through the internet. Routinely, the buyer and seller meet in public locations to make the exchange of sale items. This practice of meeting in a public location is a wise move in these situations, and we discourage you from inviting strangers to your home for this purpose.

As a result, we have established a Safe Internet Shopping Exchange Zone at City Hall. The main parking lot area adjacent to the City Building at 409 Kyles Lane is under 24 hour video surveillance. Additionally, our police department operates out of the adjacent building    We strongly encourage the use of this location for facilitation of “Internet Shopping Exchanges”.

CITY OF FORT WRIGHT, KY

RE-CERTIFIED AS KLC

CITY OF ETHICS

The City of Fort Wright, KY has officially been re-certified as a member of the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) Certified City of Ethics Program.

The City of Ethics Program was created by KLC to recognize Cities and City Officials that have adopted principles and procedures that offer guidance on ethical issues. It also serves as a mechanism to resolve complaints at the local level.

The mandatory program training, a key component of the Certified City of Ethics Program, plays a crucial role in enhancing the ethical awareness and behavior of City Officials, Staff, and Board Members. This not only fosters greater public trust and confidence in City government but also ensures that Fort Wright's operations are conducted within the highest standards of integrity. By participating in this program, the City of Fort Wright continues the tradition of being a part of a distinguished and small group of Cities in the Commonwealth that prioritize transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.

At a meeting held recently City Officials participated in the Certified City of Ethics Training Program, facilitated by KLC Personnel Services Attorney Michael Simon. This significant achievement under the Kentucky League of Cities Certified City of Ethics Program is a testament to Fort Wright's commitment to ethical governance and accountability. By continuing to participate in this program, Fort Wright has demonstrated its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of integrity in its operations.

As part of the program Fort Wright City Officials, individually and as a group, agree to subscribe to the following ethical principals and pledge to conduct city affairs accordingly:

·   Serve the public interest, not their own;

·   Be ethical and professional;

·   Communicate effectively and respectfully;

·   Fulfill the duties and responsibilities of public office;

·   Be fiscally responsible with City resources;

·   Create an environment of honesty, openness, and integrity.

Fort Wright residents and businesses expect and deserve efficiency, inclusiveness, and ethical leadership from their local government and the Fort Wright Mayor, City Council, and Staff take seriously these ethical commitments and obligations.

We are extremely proud to be re-certified as a City of Ethics for the second time by the Kentucky League of Cities.

Halloween Safety Habits

Each year, Halloween is celebrated with trick-or-treating, parties, candy, and sometimes, drinking. To stay safe, follow these 7 ghoulishly good tips for drivers, pedestrians, partygoers and party hosts.

Trick-or-Treating

Drivers should be aware that around Halloween, there will likely be more pedestrians on the roads and in unexpected places.

Safety Tips for Drivers

•Be alert for trick-or-treaters and other pedestrians.

•Slow down and scan the road. Remember: Slower speeds save lives.

•Watch for young trick-or-treaters in unexpected places. Children may be unaware of traffic and dart into the street unexpectedly.

•If you see a drunk driver, contact law enforcement.

Safety Tips for Pedestrians

•Before festivities begin, create a “buddy system” to get each other home safely and

prevent walking alone.

•Follow the rules of the road and obey signs and signals.

•If possible, cross streets at crosswalks or intersections. Look for cars in all directions,

including those turning left or right.
