The Year of the 25 th Anniversary Torah
Write Here – Right Now – Together

Join us on December 2 nd as we start SOJC’s 25 th Anniversary Torah Celebration to fulfill the mitzvot of giving and of writing a portion of the Torah scroll!
Torah Scribing
It’s finally time for SOJC’s new Torah to be written! As part of your SOJC membership, every family will be able to “write” one complimentary letter in the new Torah! Your hand will be placed on top of the scribe’s as he helps you fill in a letter of the Torah. More letters may be added to your scribing session through higher donation levels.
Sunday, December 2 nd will be the first of two visits the scribe will make to SOJC, and your first opportunity to fill in letters. There are lots of timeslots to sign up for – and no matter what time of day you choose, there will be food, fun, and opportunities for social action for all to partake in and enjoy!

Food
Breakfast will be available from 9:00am to 11:30am, and a pizza lunch from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. The day will culminate with a BBQ dinner, served from 6:15pm to 7:00pm. Dinner will be provided at $3 per person, $10 maximum per family.
There are lots of opportunities to help cook and serve these meals for our community! Dinner cooking will commence at 5:30pm.

Activities and Social Action Opportunities:
Beginning at 9:00am, the Blood Mobile will be at SOJC – a great opportunity to take action to support our community’s health!
At our Rock of Ages Station , learn some calligraphy with the Rabbi! He will help you write your personal Torah letter in calligraphy. If you purchase a parchment for $2.00, the Rabbi will handwrite in calligraphy your Hebrew name!
Starting at 12:15pm, our Dreidel Station will be open for business! Write the letters on the dreidel, decorate it, and receive five candy gelt pieces to play with your fellow congregants right then and there. Dreidels are $3.00 for one dreidel, and $2.00 for each additional dreidel.
Don’t forget to bring your menorah! After dinner, we will enjoy songs from our choir and all will participate in a communal Hanukkiah lighting to commemorate the first night of Hanukkah.
In addition to all these wonderful activities, we will also be creating a Time Capsule commemorating the first 25 years of SOJC. We ask your family to bring an item no larger than a coffee cup to be placed in the time capsule. It can be an item that represents a memory of an event that occurred at SOJC, or something that highlights the past 25 years of life here in Central Florida. Place your family’s name on or attached to the item. The time capsule will be opened again in 25 years – at SOJC’s 50 th anniversary, in 2043!

You will need to request a time slot from the following times: (Please indicate your 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd choice. Please note that we cannot guarantee a specific time will be available.

·       9:00am – 11:00am
·       11:00am – 1:00pm
·       2:00pm – 4:00pm
·       4:00pm – 6:00pm

Scribing appointments will be assigned by November 28 th .  Priority for appointment times will be given based on levels of giving, however, we will do our best to accommodate everyone’s needs! For those who are not able to attend on Dec. 2 nd or if we have an overwhelming response and spots are filled, a second opportunity will take place in May.
During your scribing session in the sanctuary, photos will be taken. While you wait for your time to write, you will be able to visit our Torah Learning Station for some interesting facts about Torah and the writing of Torahs – and enjoy all of the other activities!
