Torch Run Ontario Celebrates our 35th

Anniversary in 2022!

Message from the Manager, Derek Spence:

2022 will be a year of celebration for the LETR for Special Olympics! It’s hard to believe that it’s been 35 years since the Flame of Hope made its first appearance in Toronto, but it has. In celebration of this, we will have some exciting additions to our program in the upcoming year!

BOLO (Be On the Look Out!) for the 35th Anniversary webpage where we will celebrate the past and look forward to the future! The webpage will be interactive and highlight all of our upcoming events throughout the year. Stay tuned for its official launch... soon!

As part of the celebrations, we also have a new logo for this year! The logo can be found on our website and included in this email. Be sure to use the logo on any correspondence relating to events in 2022, both locally and Provincially.

35th Anniversary Winter Event Guide:

1) January 28 - 30, 2022 – Tim Hortons #ChooseToInclude Campaign

  • Tim Hortons locations nationwide will have a marquee doughnut celebrating Special Olympics. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics athletes across the country.

Please encourage your Service/Agency, friends and family to participate:

a. Purchase a doughnut (or a dozen!)

b. Take a picture of you and the doughnut (be creative!) and post on social media using the hashtag #ChooseToInclude and tag Special Olympics Ontario

c. Tell a friend – encourage your co-workers, family, friends and senior officers to do the same!

2) February 14 - March 21, 2022 – Virtual Provincial Polar Plunge

  • 35 days of virtual plunging to celebrate 35 years of LETR in Canada
  • Watch our SAVE THE DATE video below to get you excited about this year’s #PlungeOn

3) We plan to hold a final celebration in the fall with more details being released throughout the year!

The previous couple of years have been challenging, but the Ontario LETR has persevered and still managed to achieve the Diamond Level Award with the International LETR for raising over $1 million…yet again!

We look forward to better days ahead, and celebrating the continual rise of this outstanding program for 35 years! Please stay safe and BOLO for further

information on our year of celebration!
