About the new JAZZ BISTRO......In 1989, the building at 251 Victoria Street was given new purpose when Bob Sniderman created "The Senator Steakhouse" beside his legendary (and historic) "Senator Diner". The following year, he added the jazz club, "Top O' the Senator". For the next sixteen years, the steakhouse offered pre and post theatre dining and "The Top O' The Senator" became one of the most respected and well known venues for "live" jazz in North America. Following the closing in 2005 of both the beloved steakhouse and jazz club, "The Savoy Bistro" briefly replaced the two venues, and a year later the building was dark once again. Eight years later, (through the vision of owners Colin and Joan Hunter) the building at 251 Victoria Street has been given a new life and purpose in its magnificent, upscale incarnation as "The Jazz Bistro". The Hunters are enthusiasts of both music and fine dining, and realized a critical need in the city for a world class venue. They then set out on a journey to create a comfortable, creative space where one could enjoy memorable nights of "live" performance as well as exquisite food. As a lover of music and a well- recorded crooner, Colin understood the need to respect the performing musicians with a room and stage that complimented and supported their talents. Joan brought that room to life through exquisite careful design, installation of a state-of-the-art sound system and installation of a beautiful "one of a kind" Steinway B piano called "The Red Pops". Victoria and Dundas is once again a mecca for musicians and music lovers alike. Diners will enjoy a superb meal, raise a glass of wine in celebration, and music will once again flow from a stage graced by some of the world's greatest jazz musicians.
