Fake Fee Notices from Community Development Department

The City of Torrance is warning property owners and developers of a fraudulent scheme. Scammers are using publicly available information to send letters appearing to come from the City asking for payment for application of approval or permitting fees.

Always be vigilant of any e-mail asking for payment. Review the City's notices regarding fake entitlement fees and permitting fees for precautions on how to spot these fauds and how to report them.

Experience the Torrance Passport Program

Explore the best of Torrance from now through April 26, 2026, with the Torrance Passport!

Visit at least 10 participating restaurants, City facilities, or events for a chance to win prizes.

Pick up your passport from Margi at the California Welcome Center at Del Amo Fashion Center, any Torrance Public Library, or Torrance City Hall—or download a copy of the passport online to get started.

Snap selfies along the way and share them using #TorrancePassport for bonus entries. When you’re finished, turn in your completed passport at the California Welcome Center at Del Amo Fashion Center to be entered to win.

Torrance Sister City Association's 10th Annual Anime Contest

Calling all middle and high school anime artists! You are invited to participate in the 10th Annual Anime Art Contest by the Torrance Sister City Association! Submit one original hand-drawn or digital piece (color or black & white) for a chance to win prizes and recognition.

The submission deadline is tomorrow, Friday, April 17, 2026, between 4 and 6 p.m., and it must be in person at the Ken Miller Recreation Center (3341 Torrance Blvd.). The winners will be revealed on April 18 at 12:15 p.m. at the Bunka-Sai Japanese Cultural Festival.

Pickleball Courts are On the Way!

Please be advised that temporary fencing has been installed around the construction area for the new pickleball courts at Wilson Park.

For safety purposes, the walking path between the construction site and the parking lot staging area will be closed to pedestrian access during construction. A temporary detour will be in place.

There are a few more candidate forums for the upcoming June 2 General Election, featuring candidates for Mayor, City Council Districts 1, 3, and 5, and City Treasurer.

These forums give the public an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates as they answer questions about the issues most important to residents.

April 20 Candidate Forum - Mayor and City Treasurer

Join us Monday, April 20 for a District Candidate Election Forum at 7 p.m. in the Alta Loma Park Meeting Room. Come learn more about the candidates for Mayor and City Treasurer ahead of the June 2 General Municipal Election.

April 23 Candidate Forum - Mayor, City Treasurer, Councilmember District 1, 3, & 5

Join us Thursday, April 23 for a District Candidate Election Forum at 6:30 p.m. in the Toyota Meeting Hall. Come learn more about the candidates for Mayor, City Treasurer, and several districts across Torrance ahead of the June 2 General Municipal Election.

The League of Women Voters will be in attendance and will pose questions to the candidates during the forum.

UPCOMING TRAFFIC UPDATES

Several projects are currently underway throughout our city to improve accessibility, enhance and expand existing infrastructure, and strengthen Torrance for the future. While these improvements are essential, they may temporarily impact traffic. We are committed to keeping you informed so you can plan ahead and avoid delays.

New Traffic Updates

Construction work for the Water Replenishment District (WRD) Project to enhance groundwater in Torrance and reduce reliance on imported water by nearly 50% will continue this weekend.

Lane closures on Del Amo Blvd. and Madrona Blvd. will continue to take place now through Friday, April 17.

Social Services Commission Toiletries and More Drive

The Social Services Commission is collecting donations to support those in need. Collection bins have been placed throughout Torrance, including the City Hall lobby, the Permit Center, the Walteria Library, and the North Torrance Library.

Torrance on the Air

Did you know that before World War II, two of the biggest early milestones that took place here in Torrance were the discovery of oil in 1921 and the arrival of the CBS KNX Radio tower in 1938? On Sunday, at 3 p.m., join Mike the Radio Man at the Torrance Historical Society & Museum (1345 Post Ave.), and tune into the history of the tower. This event is free, and light refreshments will be served.

Earth Day Event

Celebrate Earth Day with us on Wednesday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Permit Center!

Stop by to trade in your plastic grocery bags for a reusable thermal grocery tote—while supplies last. This event is open to Torrance residents only.

This effort supports California’s Senate Bill 1053, which bans plastic carryout bags at grocery store checkouts and promotes the use of recycled paper or reusable bags to help reduce waste and protect our environment.

Madrona Marsh Nature Festival

Celebrate nature with us! Join the Friends of Madrona Marsh for the annual Nature Festival on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Madrona Marsh Nature Center. Enjoy guided preserve tours, hands-on crafts, a life cycle puppet show, Nature Storytime, and up-close looks at aquatic life under a microscope. Meet reptiles, amphibians, and insects, connect with local environmental groups, say hello to Ollie the Frog, and help name our California king snake. This free, family-friendly event is a fun way to explore and appreciate the natural world!

Free Catalytic Converter Etching Event

The Torrance Police Department is hosting a Free Catalytic Converter Etching Event on April 29, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Del Amo Fashion Center – Sears South Parking Lot (22100 Hawthorne Blvd.). This service helps deter theft and allows officers to identify and recover stolen catalytic converters more easily. Etching your VIN or license plate onto your catalytic converter creates a traceable identifier, making it harder for thieves to resell stolen parts. Appointments are required, and space is limited. Reserve your spot and take a simple step today to help prevent becoming a victim tomorrow.
