The City of Torrance Economic Development Department is now accepting applications for the 10th Annual Torrance Advantage Awards. The awards recognize innovative economic development strategies of local businesses, showcasing best practices and highlighting outstanding results for the year 2016. CITY OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13
TRASH AND RECYCLING COLLECTION WILL BE AFFECTED 
City Hall and other City offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 13 in observance of Lincoln's Birthday. All City libraries will be closed Sunday Feb. 12 and Monday, Feb. 13.
Residential trash, recycling and green waste collection will be affected, with service being delayed by a day. The full 2017 Refuse Schedule is available online.

Hailing from Chicago's South Side, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is a group of seven brothers from a musical family. The band mixes brass band tradition with hip hop, soul and funk. The Hearing Board of the South Coast Air Quality Management District has scheduled a hearing on the Order for Abatement regarding the Torrance Refining Company at its location in Diamond Bar. The hearing is open to the public. Signs are not allowed, but oral or written testimony is permitted. I f written material is to be presented to the Hearing Board, eight copies must be submitted to the Clerk of the Board .

Novices and aficionados alike are invited to join L.A. Opera's Community Educators for a lively and interactive discussion of their favorite operas. The discussion will start with "Salome," which was screened at the Armstrong Theatre in October. Considered scandalous when it premiered a century ago with its provocative "Dance of the Seven Veils," the operatic adaptation of Oscar Wilde's play has not lost its ability to shock. Set in Biblical times, this opera centers on a tangled triangle: the persecuted John the Baptist, a lecherous King Herod and the monarch's pathologically seductive stepdaughter, Salome.
