Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest volunteer day on the planet, which is coordinated with the Ocean Conservancy, California Coastal Commission, L.A. Department of Beaches and Harbors and Heal the Bay. This year, Coastal Cleanup has been turned into Coastal Cleanup Month, as we spend the entire month of September celebrating our watersheds and coastline at a safe distance.
There are two ways you can participate:

  • Join us for a safe and socially distanced community clean up in recognition of International Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The City of Torrance will host three hybrid community cleanup sites:
  1. Torrance Beach/Miramar Park (201 Paseo de la Playa, Redondo Beach, CA 90277)
  2. Sur La Break Park (23610 Cabrillo Avenue, Torrance, CA 90501)
  3. Downtown Torrance (Centennial Plaza in El Prado Park - El Prado Ave. from Carson St. to Cravens Ave.)

  • Grab a friend or family member to clean your street, park, local shoreline, or anywhere within Torrance that you call your happy place! All clean-up efforts during the month of September are included in Coastal Clean-Up Month.

However you choose to participate, thank you for keeping our beaches, waterways, and neighborhood clean and healthy!

Share your cleanup efforts with us!
  1. Take a photo of yourself cleaning up trash and litter in front of your home, a park, the beach, or in front of a business anywhere in Torrance and post it on social media.
  2. Post it on social media with #CoastalCleanUpMonth and #TorranceCares
  3. Tag @HealTheBay
  4. Send a copy of the photo to CDDInfo@TorranceCA.Gov to be entered in a prize drawing!

COYOTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
Do Urban Coyotes Rely On People for Food?
A number of studies in Los Angeles County found the answer to be a resounding YES. Not only do coyotes have access to food found in the wild (rabbits, possums, rodents, native fruits and seeds), they also have access to human-related food sources, including garbage, compost, fruit and on rare occasion, small domesticated animals.

Scientific findings: 38% of a coyote’s diet could be attributed to human leftovers. This study reveals coyotes are taking advantage of food sources we don’t secure. Properly storing garbage and picking ripened fruit from trees can be part of what keeps coyotes out of residential areas. If there are no food sources, coyotes will look elsewhere.

For tips to eliminate coyote food sources, and helpful information regarding urban coyotes, please visit: TorranceCA.Gov/Coyotes

Please report coyote encounters via the City of Torrance Coyote Management Portal or visit TorranceCA.Gov/Coyotes.
