Saturdays are important days in Nazareth. That’s when the spiritual realm gets shaken and prayer and worship are offered up to God like sweet-smelling incense. On Saturdays Home of Jesus the King Church has its weekly worship service, and it’s a celebration in honour of all that God has done for us. We don’t just get together as church members—we get together as brothers and sisters in Christ. I believe I speak for the entire church when I say that during the week we count the days until we get to go to church!

When our church family shows up, it’s like a reunion! Our members are just so happy to see each other, and there’s hugs and handshakes all around. Our ushers do an amazing job at welcoming newcomers and making them feel right at home. It takes a while, but eventually everyone gets seated!

Our services start with greetings and a welcome message, some prayer time, and then praise and worship. During our praise and worship there’s such a palpable sense of the Lord’s presence, and our people rejoice in the Lord with song and dance. We don’t limit out people at all during worship time, as we want them to touch God’s heart and to experience His presence to the utmost. Our praise and worship time is in actual fact more of a celebration or a party in God’s honour, than anything else.
Then comes the time to preach the Word of God and to share what the Lord has laid on my heart during the preceding week. My time of preaching is a special time for me. Throughout the week I can feel the message that God has given me building up inside my heart, and then during church the floodgates open, and the Word of God just gushes out of my heart. I praise God for the privilege to be able to share the Word of God with the flock at Home of Jesus the King, and every time I preach, I hear the words from Isaiah 55:11 clearly in my heart - “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

Our service then concludes with general prayer for the assembly, and then moving on to pray for those who approach the altar for individual prayer, and to anoint them with oil. Afterwards we all enjoy coffee and tea together, along with a lovely selection of cakes and snacks. People are also able to take books and reading material from our free library to strengthen and equip them in their walk with Christ. That same evening we upload the church messages online so that anybody can enjoy it, wherever they are. We also send out the recorded message as a video file to our church members, so that they can pass it on to their unsaved family and friends.
Throughout the week we host a variety of meetings at Home of Jesus the King with the emphasis on Bible study, prayer and intercession, discipleship, and evangelism. On Wednesdays we would usually meet for communal prayer, as well as a discipleship class, where we teach our members how to share the Gospel with Muslim Arabs. We’re very thankful for the tools that the Lord has given us to reach out to the Muslims in Nazareth. One very effective strategy of ours is called “The 4 Questions that every Muslim needs to Answer.”

We also conduct daily home visits to our church members, as well as to those who have been referred to us and have shown interest in church, or who simply have questions about our Lord Jesus Christ. On the first Friday of every month it is the ladies’ time to shine! My wife, Nisreen, would host the ladies at our church where she would teach them on stewardship, parenting, and living a godly life in God’s service. We have seen that prayer is an integral part of what God’s been doing here in Nazareth, and the Lord gave me very clear instructions to mobilise our prayer warriors to walk through the streets of Nazareth, proclaiming the Word of God, praying and interceding, and prophesying over the Arab and Jewish residents of Nazareth. In addition to this being a very effective and powerful spiritual act, it’s also a wonderful time for us to bond as family in Christ!
On of our most important evangelism tools have been a little prayer book that we had printed. These little prayer books were distributed to every church member and they serve to write down the details of every person that asks you for prayer. When people observe us writing down their names and prayer request, they’re shocked, because they realise that we truly intend to pray for them. We’re not just saying it! These little prayer books also serve as a reminder of prayers being answered, and to stay in touch with the ones whom you are praying for. It really touched people’s hearts when they see the love of Jesus demonstrated like this, and it often causes their hearts to be opened for the Gospel.

When you come to visit us in Nazareth, we’ll also bless you with this prayer book! I pray that you were blessed by taking a peek behind the scenes at church life at Home of Jesus the King Church, and that you got a sense of what we’re about as a dynamic and pro-active church in the town where Jesus grew up. You are invited to come and spend time with us when you visit Israel, and our doors are always open to you. Amen!
Just a reminder that our crucial feeding project for Rosh haShana is coming up and we’re standing in faith to serve an additional 200 Jewish and Arab families. Our volunteers are really a cause for celebration. God has blessed Home of Jesus the King with a faithful and inspired team of volunteers, who find joy in their work for the Lord. They are mostly church members who volunteer their time and efforts, to make an impact on the lives of the poor and needy in Nazareth. I’m happy to report that the majority of our volunteer team are youth and ladies, which gives me a tremendous amount of hope for the future.

They are always ready to serve and their creativity with our outreach and humanitarian projects always astound me. When they’re not busy with project preparation, then they’re organising the warehouses, preparing food packages, cleaning the church, and visiting the sick in hospital.
Through our volunteer team we are raising up a new generation of Israelis—the volunteers of today are tomorrow’s leaders. They are impacting Israeli society through their work ethic and love for Jesus. They are establishing transformative relationships with individuals and communities. They are shining the light of Jesus and preaching the Gospel, doing their part for the spiritual transformation of the land of Israel.
It’s always blessing to see godly men and women get married in the Lord. I had the privilege to conduct my brother-in-law’s engagement ceremony this past Friday. His name is Yousef and he’s getting married to a wonderful lady called Rozan. Yousef was just 8 years old when me and Nisreen got married, so in a way he’s like a son to me. I thank God for the man of God that he is, and I just know that God will bless his and Rozan’s marriage and that they will have a blessed life together. Amen!
