We have finalized the details for the tour of the magnificent Grand Central Terminal in midtown Manhattan, New York City, on Friday October 6. This world famous structure on East 42nd Street was opened to the public by the New York and Harlem Railroad on February 1, 1912. The building continues to serve New York City bound commuters to this day, and is now controlled by the Metro North Railroad.
The tour company providing the only official tour of Grand Central Terminal is Walks and they will be our guides for the tour. You will have the opportunity to:
- Visit lesser-known areas of this famous building, from an old movie theater to the former office of a 1920s railroad tycoon.
- Hear the stories of historical characters like Cornelius Vanderbilt or Paul "Tick Tock" Kugler, who made Grand Central what it is today.
- Take an intimate look at the daily routine of one of the world’s biggest and busiest travel hubs.
- See all the major sites, including the Grand Central Market, Transit Museum, Grand Central Clock, Vanderbilt Hall, the Whispering Gallery, and the Main Concourse.
The tour group will depart the Long Island Railroad's Minneola Station on Long Island and include a trip over the newly opened Long Island Rail Road East Side Access trackage to the new Grand Central Madison.
The cost of the tour is $45. It includes the tour of Grand Central Terminal and roundtrip train travel between the Long Island Railroad's Mineola station and Grand Central Terminal. Participants will be required to provide their own transportation between the convention hotel and the Mineola railroad station where paid parking is available. With roundtrip tickets, you are able to spend extra time in New York City to explore and return to Mineola at your leisure.
We will depart Mineola around 9:30am and arrive at Grand Central Terminal ahead of our scheduled 11:00am tour. Attendees can return at their leisure after the conclusion of our 90 minute tour.
So, register for the convention today and be sure to add the tour of Grand Central Terminal to your Cannonball Express experience!
