NEW BRANDING FOR TACOMA TOURISM
|
|
Travel Tacoma, the combined marketing organization for Tacoma and Pierce County, will now be known as Travel Tacoma — Mt. Rainier Tourism and Sports, with a new tagline:
MOUNTAIN CITY SEA.
Dean Burke, the president and CEO, said that adding “tourism and sports” to its overall name speaks to the expansion of its work involving not only meetings and conventions but sports and leisure.
“This is the trifecta of what a destination can offer,” he said in a said. “Most destinations have one of the three. A few have two. We’re one of only a handful in the country that have all three: A major mountain, a metropolitan city and a saltwater sea.”

TEACHING OUR FUTURE WORKFORCE - TACOMA TEACHER RECOGNIZED IN D.C.
|
The White House named Angela Salo, a teacher at DeLong Elementary, as a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the nation’s highest honor for teachers of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and/or computer science teaching.
“It’s so important for kids to have access to science and math and engineering because we have so many jobs here in the United States, especially in Washington state, that if our kids are not getting this in elementary school, then they’re almost behind when they do the science classes in middle school and high school,” Salo said.
