CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Taste of the Harvest 2017
Taste of the Harvest will take place from Thursday, October 5th - Saturday, November 4, 2017
This is your invitation to take part in our annual celebration of the fall harvest in Headwaters! Participation is easy and there are several ways to get in on the action: 
  • Prix fixe menu - Create your own harvest menu that features local ingredients in each of your menu's courses (lunch or dinner). You set the price - it has to be a deal!
  • Featured food or drink items - Provide us with a description of what products you are featuring at your store or restaurant that showcase the Headwaters harvest.
  • Harvest events and activities - If you are offering a harvest-themed cooking class, selling harvest products, running a harvest event or even creating something unique like harvest-inspired art - provide us with the details and we will promote.
Register now to be part of our Taste of the Harvest program and be included in all our promotional materials.

Headwaters Tourism's Equine Leadership Group is seeking nominations for our 2017 Headwaters Horse Country Excellence Awards in the following categories:

  • Leadership for the Future
  • Leadership in Equine Business
The Headwaters Horse Country Excellence Awards honour equine industry leaders who exemplify excellence and who, through their work and vision, have helped the Headwaters region become a centre of equine excellence in the Province of Ontario.

Register now - 2017 Ontario Tourism Summit
The Ontario Tourism Summit is the premier provincial, industry-wide business conference for members of Ontario's tourism industry to learn the latest trends, share new ideas and best practices, network with colleagues, and recognize industry leaders at the Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence. OTS17 will be held November 6th and 7th at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls.

Orangeville's public art collection continues to grow

Four new pieces of public art have been unveiled as part of the Town of Orangeville's Utility Box Art Display Program, a unique initiative that r ecognizes local artists, celebrates the Town's culture and history, and promotes Orangeville as an arts and culture hub for the region.

With the addition of these new art pieces, Orangeville's public art collection now includes eight utility boxes, 54 tree sculptures, and the new Mantis Queen sculpture at the Visitor Information Centre, all of which create unique attractions for visitors and residents of Orangeville.

Pommies Cider featured as July Product of the Month at Sobeys

Pommies was recently featured as the Product of the Month at Sobeys for the month of July!  As part of the program, 1% of their sales went to the charity of their choice, Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation. The  Friends of the  Greenbelt Foundation is a charitable grant-making organization working to help keep farmers successful, strengthen local economies, and protect and grow natural features.

Pommies continues to exemplify the best in #realheadwaters through their commitment to community, and it is because  of this commitment that they were recognized as a Tourism Champion of the Year in 2016 at the Headwaters Tourism Awards of Excellence. 

Headwaters Tourism partners with Greenbelt Route and Ontario 150 By Bike to support 2017 Tour de Headwaters   

Headwaters Tourism is pleased to announce that the Headwaters Health Care Foundation's Tour de Headwaters as been accepted as an event location for the Ontario 150 Celebrate by Bike initiative.
Ontario 150 Celebrate by Bike is connecting fifteen communities across Ontario through cycling. Events and cycling education in Bike Friendly Communities and  Ontario By Bike ride destinations take advantage of the iconic Greenbelt Route and Great Lakes Waterfront Trail to strengthen communities and create cycling itineraries as a permanent legacy of Ontario 150. This initiative is a collaborative partnership between the  Waterfront Regeneration Trust, the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation,  Ontario By Bike, and Share the Road Cycling Coalition, building on two decades of investment in cycling infrastructure in Ontario.
Tri-Village Treasures promotion launched 

The Villages of Alton, Belfountain and Erin are launching Tri-Village Treasures, a shop and win promotion taking place August 16 - September 4th, 2017. Visitors will be offered treasure map passports and upon obtaining a signature in each village will be entered for a chance to win a prize.

2017 TIAC Tourism Congress
On November 28-29th, Tourism Congress returns to the Hilton Lac Leamy in Gatineau, QC. Destination Marketing Association of Canada and Destinations International sign partnership agreement 

On July 11th at the Destination Marketing Association of Canada's (DMAC) annual summer meeting, DMAC and Destinations International signed a memorandum of understanding linking the organizations' mutual desire to strengthen Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOS) in Canada. The memorandum is the first step in establishing partnerships that will increase access to tools, research, and education opportunities to Canadian DMOs. Congratulations to both organizations on this exciting partnership!  
Ontario Tourism performance indicators 
The Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport have updated their current performance indicators have with  April 2017 data.
This user friendly, interactive tool is updated monthly with the latest tourism statistics including:
- Border Crossings
- Accommodation Statistics
- Travel Price Index
- Economic Indicators
- Consumer Response Indicators
Nominations now open for Orangeville Arts and Culture Awards
The new Celebration of the Arts free evening event kicks off Culture Days in Orangeville on September 28, 2017 as Canada celebrates Culture Days from September 29 to October 1. The Celebration of the Arts event replaces the annual Mayor's Breakfast for the Arts held by the Town for the last seven years.

The Town is currently seeking nominations for the arts and culture awards.

OMAFRA RED funding program - intake #2
The province, through the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, will be accepting applications for the second intake of the renewed RED program from July 31st to September 29th, 2017. The program is designed to bolsters economic growth in rural and Indigenous communities across Ontario by providing support for projects that allow rural municipalities and partners to diversify and grow their local economies.
