Personnel Changes at Headwaters Tourism
      
After almost 9 years at the helm of Headwaters Tourism, The organization has bid farewell to CEO Michele Harris, as she has moved to the position of Director of Economic Development & Tourism with the Municipality of Grey Highlands. Under Michele's leadership, Headwaters Tourism has become a leader in rural tourism development, and the organization has been recognized with multiple provincial and national awards for tourism marketing, economic development and innovation. Headwaters Tourism wishes to thank Michele for her commitment to all things Headwaters and wish her well in her next adventure.
 
This month Headwaters Tourism also appointed a new Chair of the Board of Directors. Effective August 14, 2018 Maria Britto replaces Stacey Coupland as Board Chair. We wish to thank Stacey for her ongoing commitment and service on the board and to tourism in the region.   
 
Community comes together to celebrate the launch of Headwaters Inspired
     
On Thursday, June 28 th , Headwaters Tourism Board and staff, were joined by Dufferin-Caledon MP David Tilson, Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones, and over 60 community champions, leaders and project collaborators to celebrate the launch of  Headwaters Inspired.   Understanding the impact of arts and culture in our region, Dufferin County , the Town of Caledon and the Town of Erin supported Headwaters Tourism in the development of an arts and culture framework. The project has created a web-based portal,  Headwaters Inspired , that will serve as a hub of information, business and resource listings, all showcasing the breadth and scope of the rich fabric of our communities.
 
 
Great Turnout for Headwaters Tour Stop of the EQUUS Film Festival
      
From Friday, July 20th to the 22nd Headwaters Tourism hosted the first-ever Canadian Tour Stop for the renowned EQUUS Film Festival. Headwaters Horse Country served as the perfect backdrop for the Festival which was held at the Town Hall Opera House in the heart of historic Downtown Orangeville. There, hundreds of film enthusiasts, arts and culture lovers, equestrians and visitors to the area enjoyed an international slate of films celebrating the beauty and majesty of the horse.

The Tourism Industry Association of Canada's annual conference brings together industry leaders, professionals and influencers from coast to coast to coast under one roof. More than 330 industry professionals attended last year's Tourism Congress and over 450 delegates including 23 MPs enjoyed the Canadian Tourism Awards.

Downey Farm Celebrates 25 Years
 
On Saturday, August 18th, Downey Farm is opening a 25th Anniversary edition of its 8 acre corn maze to commemorate the 25 years since the Downey Family opened the doors to the farm market. 25% of admission sales on that day will be donated to Bethell Hospice + visitors can enjoy FREE corn on the cob & BBQ from 11am - 1pm as part of their admission.

Grand Valley Installs EV Charging Stations 
 
Through Tesla's Destination Charging program, four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have been installed in Grand Valley's municipal parking lot on the West Back Alley off Amaranth Street West. Four parking spaces have been allocated for electric vehicle (EV) charging and one universal (J1772) connector which allows an EV from any brand to charge, at no cost, 24 hours a day.

Official Opening of the Mono Pollinator Garden

On Aug. 12, 2018, the Mono Pollinator Garden celebrated its official opening at 246366 Hockley Rd, Mono, ON (beside the Headwaters Tourism and Dufferin Board of Trade offices). Dignitaries in attendance for the grand opening included Town of Mono Mayor Laura Ryan and the Honourable Sylvia Jones, Ontario Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport and Dufferin-Caledon MPP among others.

The 2018 Heritage Music Festival featuring the 68th Canadian Open Old Time Fiddle Championship took place this past weekend in Shelburne. In addition to Saturday's fiddle competition, the Festival featured a Country Jamboree on Wednesday evening, the Beckett Family fiddling and stepdancing their way through Thursday evening, and The Trews rocking the arena on Friday.

Erin Fair announces Horse Heritage Hall of Fame   
 
The Erin Agricultural Society is pleased to announce the inaugural Erin Fair Heritage Horse Hall of Fame, presented by the Erin Fair Equine Tent Committee. The Erin Fair Horse Hall of Fame will recognize, and celebrate people and horses in Erin who have made an outstanding contribution to our community. Each year,  beginning this year, one horse, individual or group will be honoured at a special ceremony in the Equine Tent at the Erin Fair.

Inaugural Osprey Valley Open benefited three local charitable causes  
 
The Osprey Valley Open announced that three organizations - Credit Valley Conservation, the Bethell Hospice Foundation and Caledon Community Services - received benefit from the tournament's charitable donations on behalf of the official Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada event that took place July 16 - 22, 2018.

Dufferin County's Museum reopens with new look and brand  
 
Following renovations that took place through the winter of 2017/18, Dufferin County Museum & Archives has reopened as the Museum of Dufferin featuring new exhibits, programs and partnerships created in an effort to offer more to its members, visitors and community.

Town of Caledon unveils CBIZ - the Caledon Business Innovation Zone   
 
The Town of Caledon recently unveiled a newly-designed space at Town Hall dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. The Caledon Business Innovation Zone (CBIZ) is the primary destination for entrepreneurs looking to make their business dreams a reality or small business owners who want to network, learn and expand their business horizons.

Temperance and Temptation Tours launched in Headwaters Region 
 
Central Counties Tourism has launched a new series of tours exploring the region's brewing and distilling history. Temperance and Temptation Tours can be either self-guided, immersive guided VIP experiences or an exploration of an exhibit at the Museum of Dufferin.
 

  
FEO MasterClass Series comes to Barrie
  
Festivals and Events Ontario is bringing its FEO MasterClass Series to the City of Barrie Thursday September 6 and Friday September 7, 2018.
Featured topics include risk management, customer exexperience management, social media and more. One and two-day session registrations available.

Tourism Town Hall Series comes to Toronto 
TIAC's 2018 Tourism Town Hall series is an event partnership between the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, Destination Canada and local industry partners. Town Halls afford tourism business owner-operators the opportunity to provide first-hand input on issues affecting their business and the tourism industry such as: labour, marketing, cost competitiveness and access.

Each year Festivals and Events Ontario recognizes the accomplishments and successes of its members with the prestigious FEO Awards program. Categories include: Top 100 Festivals and Events, Hall of Fame Volunteer Awards, Municipality of the Year Awards, Service Excellence and more. Submission deadline: Friday, November 16, 2018.

Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones appointed Ontario Minister of Tourism, Culture & Sport
 
On June 29th, 2018 at Queen's Park, Sylvia Jones MPP Dufferin-Caledon was sworn-in as the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. "I am honoured to be appointed by Ontario's 26th Premier, Doug Ford, as the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. I am looking forward to working with the Premier, members of cabinet and my Progressive Conservative colleagues to deliver on our agenda of relief for families, seniors and businesses," said Jones.
