Headwaters Tourism honoured at 2017 Marketing Canada Awards
On Tuesday, September 12th, Headwaters Tourism was honoured with the Brand Identity Award at the 2017 EDAC Marketing Canada Awards in Niagara Falls. EDAC (the Economic Developers Association of Canada) is Canada's national organization of economic developers.

The Ontario Tourism Summit is the premier provincial, industry-wide business conference for members of Ontario's tourism industry to learn the latest trends, share new ideas and best practices, network with colleagues, and recognize industry leaders at the Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence. OTS17 will be held November 6th and 7th at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls.

Prep Rally for Tour de Headwaters

If you are thinking about taking part in your first cycling tour, or want to participate in the 2017 edition of the Tour de Headwaters, but aren't sure where to start, you are invited to participate in our free cycling prep rally!  Bring your friends and family and learn about what's required to participate in a cycling tour. The session will conclude with a short group ride on the Greenbelt Cycling Route, where participants can practice their newly acquired skills.
This event is free, but pre-registration is required and limited to 50 participants. A limited number of bikes will be available for rental.

Ontario Tourism releases tourism indicator statistics to June 2017 
The Ministry of Tourism releases quarterly indicators on the state of tourism in the province.

2021 Census of Population content consultation
Statistics Canada is conducting a public consultation on the 2021 Census of Population from September to December 2017.  The online consultation questionnaire is designed to gather information about how and why Canadians use census data, the type of information they believe should be available from the census, and details of other data sources that could be used to supplement or replace current census content.

EDCO seeking nominations for Board of Directors  
The deadline to submit your nominations for the EDCO Board of Directors is less than a one month away! Nominations for the 2018 - 2020 term of the EDCO Board of Directors will be accepted until  September 15, 2017. There are three vacancies to be filled.

Greenbelt Fund to host Food Hub Management Certificate course
Next January (2018) the Greenbelt Fund will be hosting a Food Hub Management Certificate course . The first of its kind in North America, now in its third year and first time being offered in Canada, this program is an innovative blend of hands-on, community-based online and on-campus learning to prepare you for managing food hubs. The program provides the tools you need to advance your career in food systems.

Difference between and employee and an independent contractor 

The Ministry of Labour has published a new guideline outlining the key differences between an employee and an independent contractor. On June 1, 2017, the Ontario government introduced legislation, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017.  If passed, the proposed legislation would prohibit employers from misclassifying employees as "independent contractors". 
185,000 Ontario jobs at risk from Bill 148
The Keep Ontario Working Coalition (KOW) recently released the first and only independent economic impact analysis of Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces Better Jobs. The study concludes that these vast, unprecedented reforms will put about 185,000 jobs at risk in the first two years, greatly impacting Ontario's most vulnerable workers.

Fresh from the Farm coming to Ontario schools

Fresh Ontario-grown produce will be arriving at over 300 Ontario schools this November through the healthy fundraiser Fresh from the Farm.  
Fresh from the Farm is a collaborative initiative between Ministry of Education, Dietitians of Canada, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers' Association.

Town of Orangeville seeking submissions for Canada 150 art legacy project  
Thanks to funding support from the County of Dufferin, the Canada 150 Wall will be a community art project in the form of a large-scale mural that celebrates Canadian and local themes. Members of the community are invited to participate in the program by submitting artwork, with 50 selected pieces being showcased on aluminum panels on the lobby wall at the Alder Recreation Centre. Designs may be in any visual medium - digital, photography, sculpture, textile, painting, sketching etc.

OMAFRA RED funding program - intake #2
The province, through the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, will be accepting applications for the second intake of the renewed RED program from July 31st to September 29th, 2017. The program is designed to bolsters economic growth in rural and Indigenous communities across Ontario by providing support for projects that allow rural municipalities and partners to diversify and grow their local economies.
