Visit High Point Closed For Martin Luther King Jr. Day
The High Point Visitors Center will be closed Monday, January 17th in recognition of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will re-open on Tuesday, January 18th at 8:30am. Visitors can access furniture shopping information using the outdoor brochure bin to left of the Visitors Center entrance or they may also use our website.

Visit High Point Board Of Directors Elect New Officers
The Visit High Point Board of Directors elected their new slate of officers at the December 15th board meeting. In addition, the board installed new voting member Mark Connell, Courtyard by Marriott general manager, representing accommodations over 100 rooms appointed by the Guilford County Commissioners. The Guilford County Commissioners also re-appointed Commissioner Carlvena Foster to the board for another term. David Nicoletta, owner of Giannos Restaurant, will serve as chair also representing food and beverage businesses. Other Executive Committee members include Chris Amos, (International Market Centers) as vice chair; Jonathan Marquez, (Northwood Animal Hospital) as treasurer; James McNeil, as assistant treasurer; and Jenni Lynch (Roberson Hayworth & Reese) as past chair.

Foundation For Healthy High Point Conducts Community Survey
The Foundation for a Healthy High Point would like to get feedback directly from community members about the health priorities and needs within the community, as well as the foundation's role in addressing those issues. The goal of this survey is to better understand your perspectives on physical and mental health, access to health care and conditions related to health like housing, food and transportation in High Point communities. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Once taking the survey, you will be offered the chance to enter into a drawing for a $100 gift card.

Stock + Grain Announces Two New Vendors

Damn Good Dogs is owned by former police office, Jaquay Williams, and focuses on gourmet grilled hot dogs and smash burgers. Highlights of the menu include several hot dog offerings, as well as burgers, fries and a 100% plant-based spicy Italian vegan sausage.

Go Yaki was started by Roddy Tate Jr., who's signature products include Yaki Bowls, Boss Rolls (shrimp stir fry inside an egg roll) and Yaki Wangs, which are fried chicken wings glazed in a homemade Mami white sauce and teriyaki sauce.

Side By Side With Nido Qubein Featuring Dennis Quaintance
Watch this week's episode of Side By Side With Nido Qubein, where he sits down with Dennis Quaintance, the president of Quaintance-Weaver Restaurants & Hotels. In 1973, Quaintance began his hospitality career at 15 as a housekeeper’s assistant at a hotel in Missoula, Montana, where he worked his way up to assistant general manager while still in high school. After high school, he worked in leadership at several hotels around the Northwest, Arizona and Florida. Quaintance teamed up with Mike Weaver to form Quaintance-Weaver in 1988 and opened Lucky 32 restaurant in Greensboro in 1989. Today, the Quaintance-Weaver family of businesses includes a second Lucky 32 Southern Kitchen in Cary; the four-diamond, 130-room O’Henry Hotel and the adjacent Green Valley Grill; and the four-diamond, 147-room Proximity Hotel and neighboring Print Works Bistro, which are the first hotel and restaurant to gain Platinum certification with the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. In 2014, Quaintance-Weaver also created the QW Craft Guild, a group of 10 to 16 full-time and adjunct artists and craftspeople that make and restore items and spaces for the Quaintance-Weaver businesses.

Guilford County Needs Your Input On Broadband Internet
Deadline For Survey: Friday, January 14th
Guilford County is working to identify who has access to broadband internet and digital devices and who does not. They are asking you to attend a meeting and/or take the online surveys, as this will help the County develop a strategy to assist communities where access or service is lacking or too expensive. This Broadband Study is part of Guilford County's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding allocation efforts.

HPU To Host MLK Day Of Service & Worship Service
Monday, January 17th | 11am
HPU's Hayworth Chapel
Every year, High Point University students lead the efforts in community service projects for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. The community is invited to join the university for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Worship Service that morning. Community members are also invited to join HPU students and faculty as they participate in 30 service projects around the city on January 17th.

Community Beautification Event

Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church | 301 Hickory Chapel Road
In honor of the legacy of service left by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Keep High Point Beautiful and several students and staff from High Point University will be partnering to help remove litter from some High Point roadways. Join them in this beautification event and meet in the fellowship hall of the Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church Monday. High Point Historical Society Presents: High Point University And The Furniture Industry
Wednesday, January 19th | 10am-12pm

The High Point Historical Society will host Dr. Richard R. Bennington, author of High Point University and the Furniture Industry. Bennington will discuss the history of the dynamic partnership between the High Point Furniture Market and High Point University; as well as the impact that real-world exposure has had on the students and the industry by providing stories of several High Point University graduates who are successfully employed in various positions throughout the furniture business.

Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade Has Been Postponed
New Date: Sunday, January 23rd | 2pm
Begins: Green Street | Ends: Montlieu Avenue
The 20th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade has been postponed by a week due to possible weather. The parade will still be held on Main Street beginning at Green Street and will end at Montlieu Avenue. Please contact the Carl Chavis Memorial Branch YMCA at 336-434-4000 for entry information.

Business Recovery Grant Program
Deadline To Apply: January 31, 2022
The Business Recovery Grant Program (BRG) will issue a one-time payment to eligible North Carolina businesses that experienced significant economic loss due to COVID-19. Two types of grants will be available to eligible businesses that suffered an economic loss of at least 20% during the pandemic.
Hospitality Grant: available to eligible arts, entertainment and recreation businesses, as well as eligible accommodation or food service business such as a hotel, restaurant and bar (NAICS Codes 71 and 72).
Reimbursement Grant: available to eligible businesses who are not classified in NAICS Code 71 and 72, and businesses who did not receive funding from other relief programs including: Paycheck Protection Program, COVID-19 Job Retention Grant, and EIDL Advance.

Piedmont Discovery Scavenger Hunt
Play Now Until December 31, 2022
Eight local cities and Guilford County have launched the Piedmont Discovery Scavenger Hunt. The countywide, 12-month contest will give away more than $2,000 worth of prizes from All-A-Flutter Butterfly Farms, Blue Duck, Fleet Feet, Great Outdoor Provision Company, Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro Science Center, Kersey Valley, NC Zoo, REI Co-op Greensboro, Triad Untied Rowing Association, and local parks and recreation departments.
