Visit High Point Wins Platinum!

Last Thursday, Visit High Point President, Melody Burnett, attended the NCTIA (NC Travel Industry Association Conference) in Winston-Salem, where tourism industry professionals were recognized for their work during the 2020-2021 year. Platinum and Gold awards were issued for several categories where DMO's compete amongst their peers in their respective budget. Visit High Point won Platinum for the Best Leisure Marketing Campaign with "Shop Safely in High Point", as well as Platinum for Best Community Steakholder Communication with the "High Point Food Mob Page", which was created in partnership with Business High Point - Chamber of Commerce.
Museum Welcomes New Staff Member

Brooke Martin recently joined the High Point Museum staff as the Visitor Services & Store Manager. She will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Museum Store, including purchasing and maintaining the store's inventory. She will also be greeting visitors and answering questions so if you see her, make sure to offer her a warm welcome!
Historical Society Hosts Beer Historians At Paddled South Brewing
Friday, October 8th | 5:30pm

The High Point Historical Society's Monthly Program goes hand in hand with the fact that October is also North Carolina Craft Beer Month. Meet The Authors: "North Carolina Triad Beer: A History." explores a 250-year long history of the brewing industry in the Triad. Enjoy a discussion and a book signing of "North Carolina Triad Beer: A History" with authors Erin Lawrimore and Richard Cox. Paddled South will be offering a custom HPHS "1859" brew, and Lobster Dogs Food Truck will be onsite.
11th Annual Unity Festival

The Washington Street Business Association, Hayden-Harman Foundation, DRLtoons and The MIND Group are hosting the 11th Annual Unity Festival this weekend. The event will include live entertainment, food trucks, vendors, a kid zone and so much more! The purpose is to celebrate the legacy of Washington Street and promote future opportunities and growth throughout the district.
Where Do We Go From Here Conversations - Fair Housing
Tuesday, October 12th | 7pm-8pm

Join YWCA High Point and Business High Point - Chamber of Commerce as they host a "Where Do We Go From Here" discussion on fair housing. Housing experts Willie Ratchford and Yamile Nazar discuss what counts as "fair" housing, including who's protected under federal laws, what you can do to protect your civil rights, and how housing might be made more equitable for everyone.

Gallery On Main Presents: A Weekend Of Furniture Market Events
Friday, October 15th - Sunday, October 17th

Join Gallery on Main as they celebrate the amazing work that will be showcased next week. On Friday, October 15th at 6pm, they will kick off the weekend with Karmic Connections Opening Reception, a solo exhibition by Greensboro-based artist, Raman Bhardwaj. The celebration will continue on Saturday, October 16th at 6pm with the Designers Today Magazine Cover Release Party, featuring Gallery On Main's Sabrina Tillman McGowens, owner of Sabrina's Fine Art. To round out the weekend, there will be a Black Designers Mixer, sponsored by Unwind on Main Cafe and Bar on Sunday, October 17th from 6pm-10pm.
High Point Parks & Recreation Seeks Participants For Holiday Parade Of Boats
Saturday, December 4th | 5pm

High Point Parks and Recreation is excited to offer their Holiday Parade of Boats again this year. This fun event will take place at Oak Hollow Lake. Participation in the event does require registration online. Simply click the link and select 'register' and 'special events' then search for Holiday Parade of Boats. You may also register by phone at 336-883-3494. The parade will accommodate both powered and non-powered vessels. Spectators can view the parade free of charge from Festival Park.
Updates On New Attractions Coming To High Point
Stock + Grain Assembly Announces First Round Of Committed Food Artisans And Opening Date

High Point's new food hall is moving closer to completion! Stock + Grain is planning a Grand Opening Celebration in March 2022 and will host a winter preview with select merchants in January and February 2022. The first round of confirmed food artisans include:
Serving smoked meats and Texas-style BBQ, Biscuits Brisket & Beer is the first restaurant from owner Chris Ryker, founder of NC Beer Pride.
Yumi Sushi
Specializing in Japanese cuisine & Taiwanese boba tea, Yumi Sushi is the first restaurant from industry veterans Jessica and Hsiao Shan Chen.
Specializing in "made-to-order doughnuts in artistic flavors," Pop's Mini Doughnut Shop is a homegrown business from husband-and-wife team Christopher and Margaret Headen.
Nido And Mariana Qubein Children's Museum Seeking Toy Donations

The Nido and Mariana Qubein Children's Museum is seeking donations of vintage and antique toys to be incorporated into the Congdon Hall of Mysteries. Children will find clues and crack codes to solve mysteries throughout this "museum within a museum." The museum is especially interested in classic iconic toys from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Examples of toys include but are not limited to:
  • Teddy bears and other plush animals

  • Tonka trucks, matchbox cars and other vehicles

  • Action figures and other figurines

  • Barbies

  • Troll dolls

  • Playmobil

  • Polly Pocket
Toys must be approzimately 20 years old or older and in good to excellent condition. Items must be no larger than 9 inches and at least one dimension. For any questions please contact Olivia Pekkala.
Kids Point Is On Its Way At The Nido & Mariana Qubein Children's Museum

It's all about the kids at Kids Point, a small town that resembles High Point. A grocery store is located in the town where you can work or shop. Customers will be making purchases, cashiers will be needed, and shelves will need stocking.
Groups Coming To High Point
High Point University Fall Open House

High Point University will host their fall open house this weekend, October 7th-9th. This will bring about 550 people to High Point. Please give them a warm welcome during their stay!
