Much to Celebrate: A Message From WOT's Board President
Dear Tourism and Hospitality Leaders,
Wyoming’s summer is off and running. With incredible events happening around the state, like Green River’s Rendezvous Days, Lander’s International Climbers Festival, Sheridan’s WYO Rodeo, Jackson’s Old West Days, Casper’s Balloon Roundup Festival and “The Daddy of the All”, Cheyenne Frontier Days and so much more, we have much to celebrate in our great state!

In recognition of hard work and innovation occurring around Wyoming, I would like to highlight a few openings and events occurring throughout the summer:

  • Old English Tunnel—South Pass City State Historic Site restored this mining tunnel, which is now open for tours to the public.
  • State Capitol Open House—The Capitol opened its doors to the public on July 10 and had a large celebration with live music, food trucks and many other festivities in downtown Cheyenne.
  • Wyoming State Fair – The 107th Wyoming State Fair will kick off August 9 in Douglas.

Of course, we have many other openings, activities and celebrations to look forward to promoting throughout the rest of summer 2019. If you ever have questions regarding Wyoming’s events, please check the Wyoming Office of Tourism’s event page www.travelwyoming.com/events .
Each quarter, I will continue sending out communications about a variety of tourism topics and latest news. As we are preparing to celebrate Wyoming’s 150th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage in December, I would like to take this time to remind you of Wyoming’s initiative for communities to join the celebration by creating events about women’s suffrage or women empowerment. For more information, visit www.travelwyoming.com/wyoming-womens-suffrage
Please feel free to reach out to me or any of the Board members for any questions or concerns you might have, let us hear from you. Are you interested in attending a board meeting? The Tourism Board meets on a bi-monthly basis, with the next meeting scheduled for August 19, 2019 via conference call. For more information visit www.travelwyoming.com/industry/about/board
On behalf of the board, I would like to thank you for your continuous support and work for the tourism industry.

WOT on the Move: Sales Mission in Asia
During the 2nd week of July, Jim Wollenburg attended Brand USA's international sales mission in Tokyo, Japan and Seoul, South Korea. During this time, he met with 40 Tour Operators and presented to more than 80 members of the travel trade and travel media. Important connections were made with companies such as JTB, H.I.S., HanaTour, and Trek America. The biggest trend taken from these appointments and market briefings was that FIT is quickly growing in these markets and while iconic destinations are most well known, a genuine interest in off-the-beaten-path destinations and unique attractions/activities are gaining momentum.
